Greenpan Cookware FAQs

Before I wrap up this GreenPan cookware review and give you my recommendation, let’s quickly go over the most frequently asked questions about the brand.

GreenPan cookware was designed and manufactured in Belgium by a GreenPan owned, ISO-award-winning factory located in Jiangmen in China.

GreenPan has dishwasher-safe options, but we recommend hand washing. To preserve the potware’s durability, use a non-abrasive sponge or a soft cloth and warm soapy water.

Venice Pro, Venice Pro Noir, Valencia Pro, and Levels Stainless collections are all induction-compatible. The other collections are not.

According to GreenPan’s FAQs, it discourages the use of metallic utensils. However, I spoke with a GreenPan representative, and she said that collections coated with Thermolon Diamond Advanced ceramic non-stick could handle metal utensils. These collections are Levels, Padova Reserve and SmartSear.

GreenPan offers a 2-year warranty on its ceramic non-stick coating and a lifetime warranty on the pan. The warranty covers manufacturing defects and workmanship issues.

Unused products can be returned in the original packaging within 14 days of receiving them.

GreenPan can be purchased on Amazon and GreenPan.us.

GreenPan was founded in Belgium in 2007. They searched tirelessly to find the perfect nonstick coating. What was the result? Thermolon. This innovative invention was a ceramic nonstick that is unique and first-of-its kind. GreenPan is the pioneer of this type of natural non-stick cookware.

Greenpan Cookware: Safe and Healthy?

We’ve covered a lot of safety and health issues in GreenPan. Here’s what we found:

  • GreenPan produces no toxic fumes like PTFE cookware can at high heat
  • GreenPan does not contain PFAS. This is a well-known carcinogen that can cause serious health problems and may be dangerous for the environment.
  • GreenPan is made using a sol-gel process, which uses titanium dioxide nanoparticles, which may be carcinogenic. There is little research about this to be had, so we can’t be sure it’s unsafe. But if you’re considering ceramic nonstick cookware, you may want to do some more research before you buy. GreenPan says it does not contain nanoparticles but research shows that this is what the sol gel process contains. More research is needed. This article summarizes well the issue of nanoparticles.
  • GreenPan products could also be contaminated with other toxic substances, however, this speculation is still possible.
  • GreenPan is, as all nonstick ceramic cookware, almost certain to be safer than PTFE. The jury is not yet out about the possible chemicals GreenPan might contain.

    Cost:

    Many brands have reasonable prices.

There are many brands that have reasonable prices.

The biggest difference as far as daily use is probably in heating: while you have to constantly monitor PTFE cookware to make sure it doesn’t get overheated, there really is no upper safety limit on ceramic cookware: you can heat the crap out of it and it won’t emit any dangerous fumes.

However, to maintain the longest possible nonstick lifespan, both types require the use of low-to-medium heat. Nonstick cookware that is too hot will be destroyed faster than any other. This applies to both the nonstick and silicone types.

To ensure you get the lowest price, it is a good idea to check multiple sites.

    What’s GreenPan’s Warranty?

GreenPan provides a 2-year warranty for all Thermolon coatings and a lifetime guarantee on any manufacturing defect on their products.

Although it may seem short for nonstick coatings, 2 years is realistic. Nonstick cookware manufacturers that provide a lifetime warranty on nonstick cookingware do not honour it. Thus, GreenPan is more honest than many other makers.

How does GreenPan return policy work?

GreenPan has a 60 day, no-questions-asked return policy on all their products. To honor returns, they must have the pan in its original condition after 60 days.

    Is GreenPan good quality?

GreenPan pans are of high quality. The pans are thinner than other pans so heating may be less noticeable. GreenPan pans have a long history of durability. GreenPan’s nonstick coating, which is of high quality, should also last for as long or longer that other pans. Expect to see it lasting anywhere between 6 months and 5 years.

GreenPan’s newest product, GP5, measures 5mm thick. It is the thickest aluminum pan that we have ever seen. This means it has excellent heating capabilities and will never warp.

For best results, we recommend purchasing a line that has stainless steel handles.

GreenPan is non-toxic, safe for the environment.

GreenPan’s products may contain questionable ingredients, as well as evidence of a less green manufacturing process. Check out the sections above for more information.

While not super lightweight, they’re not exceedingly heavy either (because they’re crafted from anodized aluminum) and are therefore easy to maneuver in the kitchen.

GreenPan cookware offers good value overall. They’re not the cheapest nonstick pans on the market – nor are they among the pricier lines. And while no nonstick finish lasts endlessly, GreenPan cookware has certainly held up and proven to be one of the more durable nonstick coating’s we’ve ever used at home. It doesn’t easily flake off like some brands do. But it will accumulate scratches over time.

    Greenpan Cookware Alternatives

It’s worthwhile to check out Green Pan’s competitors before you conclude. First, Scanpan is the name that sticks in my head. I feel that Scanpan is trying to do something similar to Green Pan. And they’re not bad, yet when I reviewed Scanpan, I actually ended up recommending Green Pan.

GreenPan cookware is not only good quality but is Teflon-free, something Scanpan couldn’t boast.

Other similar products, like Blue Diamond, also contain Teflon.

There are still some good Greenpan options, such as ceramic cookware sets that don’t contain Teflon.

    Greenpan Cookware Is Really Nonstick

GreenPan suggests that you cook with cooking oil. Most ceramic nonstick cookware manufacturers also recommend the same. Some go so far as to call their product “semi-nonstick,” meaning that you shouldn’t expect it to be nonstick without cooking oil.

We think that having to use cooking oil is the opposite of what nonstick means. The bottom line is that GreenPan and other ceramic nonstick brands are not nonstick. At best, you can consider it to be “semi-nonstick.”

    Greenpan Ceramic Cookware

The GreenPan pots and pans have a special ceramic coating — Thermolon — the 7th generation of which is diamond-reinforced and gives the cookware its toughened nonstick surface.

Thermolon’s ceramic nonstick surface is free from PFAS and PFOA.

This means it has none of these…

The nonstick is PTFE-free — it is not Teflon. The difference is explained in my article about ceramic and Teflon’s nonstick coating.

This video has more information about Thermolon.
