Find out why the NOBULL TRAINER was the most comfortable and supportive cross-training shoes that I tried.

In 2015, NOBULL was founded with the idea of offering the cross training shoe industry a “no frills” approach to training shoes. NOBULL sneakers have been growing in popularity over the years and are now one of the most well-known cross training shoes for functional and recreational athletes. It’s been four years since our first review of the NOBULL Trainer in 2016. I felt it was high time to review them again.
The NOBULL Trainer was reviewed for its construction, price, performance, as well as the cons and pros that came with it. The NOBULL trainer is my favorite cross-training shoe. Let’s take a look at the design to see why.

Nobull trainer Intro
NoBull is a brand that was built for people who work hard and aren’t afraid to make excuses. If you think gimmicks in your shoes make you a better athlete NoBull is not for you” (read- no bullshit!) The NoBull Trainer could not be better summarized. It’s durable and tough for those hard training sessions, whilst adding on no uneccesary or unwanted extras.
This review will of course draw some comparisons to the Nike Metcon Reebok Nano Crossfit shoes due to their huge popularity and domination of the Crossfit training shoe market.
NoBull Trainers come in the same price range of Nano and Metcon. The Nano and Metcon have been my favorites for a while, but I found the NoBull Trainer to be a great challenger.
The NoBull brand was set up by ex-Reebok colleagues Marcus Wilson and Michael Schaeffer in 2014 to provide shoes for Crossfitters that embrace simplicity and don’t take themselves too seriously.
NoBull Trainer was its first product. They now have a number of styles, including high-top models and slip-resistant running shoes.
The NoBull trainer is designed for Crossfit workouts, including running, climbing, sliding, grinding and lifting- basically anything that a WOD (workout of the day) throws at you.
Crossfit footwear should feature a low toe drop, flat, sturdy base, and an attractive upper. What did the NoBull Trainer do?
Our Verdict
NOBULL entered the CrossFit shoe market and quickly gained popularity. Our shoe testers can understand their popularity, as the NOBULL Trainers don’t look like your typical shoe for CrossFit. They are made of a single piece, rather than the multi-layered and patchworked design found in many athletic shoes. Their look does not make these shoes stand out from other brands. Our reviewers were impressed by the trainers’ versatility and performance in all tests matrixes. This is why they are our top pick.
The NOBULL trainer, a brand new to CrossFit has been awarded our Top Pick Award. The shoe isn’t your typical CrossFit trainer, thanks to its one-piece construction. These shoes are becoming more common and their benefits are obvious after we have worn them.
Even though we felt strong during heavy lifts, our short runs were just as enjoyable. The NOBULLs perform well on lifts but feel sluggish when running. The BEST compliment we could have given during our testing was It was hard to believe that these trainers were on. More than one tester noted that the Trainers were so comfortable and reliable that it was hard to find anything wrong with them during a workout. The Trainers are strong and supportive, ventilated, and not too bulky despite the fact that they look like they do. A firefighter puts the Nobull Shoes through an Athletic Gauntlet
Justin Herzog is a competitive CrossFit athlete and a particularly muscular, particularly mustachioed San Diego firefighter. He’s the kind of professional who understands that being good at one of these efforts helps him be even better at the other. This is his opinion on the NOBULL trainers. It’s a shoe that allows you to get down to business and not worry about the details.
To be able and able help the people of Southeast San Diego when needed, I must maintain my physical fitness as a full time firefighter. Training is essential for both the on-duty and off-duty requirements of this job.
Training in all gear is a must. Practicing like we play. This also includes physical training with multiple methods out of my gear in order to better prepare for the day when it is on. This requires using resilient, comfortable, dependable gear, starting with a solid foundation in footwear. Here comes the NOBULL Trainers.
I recently received a couple pairs of trainers from NOBULL to test out and run through the gamut of training that I use both on and off duty. I passed the NOBULL training equipment with flying colors. The NOBULL trainers pushed heavy barbell deadlifts through heavy barbells, ran on an obstacle track and treadmill, carried heavy sandbags and climbing ropes and did a few circuits of box jumps, burpees and dumbbells.
I was able to wear both pair of trainers during a hectic three week training period.
The shoes show a great deal of care and attention. It is obvious that the shoes have a unique exterior texture. SuperFabric’s unique texture on the exterior of its shoe is distinctive. The bumpy texture feels like wearing an armor-like layer. The shoe is durable but doesn’t make me feel tired.
It provides both solid support as well as equal comfort. Darn Tough socks make it easy to train. I love the cushioned sockliner that is molded into the shoes. Even the laces are woven tight and are easy to adjust. The shoes that I choose to wear to training aren’t something I care about. NOBULL handles these details so efficiently that I can focus on my training.
Performance
Cross-training can be difficult if you don’t have the right shoes. Cross-training shoes not only need to have incredible stability but also withstand your weight under a barbell.
The shoes must also be breathable in order to provide comfort for intense workout sessions.
Therefore, we can’t complete this NOBULL shoe review without reviewing the shoes’ performance.
We’re pleased to report that NOBULL shoes check all the boxes for high-quality CrossFit shoes.
These shoes have a versatile but stable midsole and outsole that can withstand the variety of weights you lift.
Additionally, these shoes are very lightweight with only four millimeters of heel-to toe drop. The result is more freedom in any workout. You will find the right support for your exercises, no matter whether you do deadlifts (squats) or squats (deadlifts).
We also love that these shoes feature a versatile lug pattern that’s excellent for indoor and outdoor traction.

Jake Boly is a certified strength and conditioning specialist (CSCS) and raves over the NOBULL sneakers in his NOBULL shoe review. He praises the shoes for being consistent at the gym.
These shoes have been reviewed by experts at Run Repeat and Outdoor Gear Lab, who have positive things to say about the construction and performance.
However, they complained about the shoe sizes being smaller compared to other models and of course, the steep price tag.
The shoes are loved by consumers for their comfort, versatility, and excellent fit. However, some consumers have voiced concerns about the cost and quality of the shoes, such as frayed laces, loose seams, and a worn tongue.
However, overall buyers love the shoes.

Their golf shoes are amazing! I saw some videos recently of Scott Stallings working out and then the video switched over to him on the golf course. The shoes he was wearing were new NOBULL and they caught my attention immediately. You will see some images of the shoes as well as my review. Conclusion
These shoes are great overall. These shoes are great. If I were to play more golf, the Slate would be my second choice. For now though the Slate works well. They’re the most comfortable and supportive golf shoe that I’ve ever tried. Their spikeless design was flawless and I had no issues. They also fit perfectly with my usual shoe size. These seem to be 100% waterproof, so even early morning rounds with dew on the ground I would not be concerned. Only hesitation and the only reason why I wouldn’t wear them for a round would be if the chance of rain is very high. The perforation makes sense…but at the same time it doesn’t.
Remarkably, for reviewing these shoes I received no compensation. The shoes cost $179 and I will pay twice as much for another pair. If you don’t like the simplicity of these shoes (i.e. I’d recommend that you get the NOBULLMATRYX to see if it suits your needs.
