Are You Looking for the Best All-around Knife? The Randall Model 3 is the best all-around knife.

Randall Model 3 Hunters with stacked leather handles retail for $415 Randall Makes Knives A Florida young outdoorsman called Walter Doane Randall saw the hull of a boat being scraped using an odd-looking hunting blade. He bought it on the spot, tracked down its maker an eccentric Michigander named William Scagel and asked him how to make knives. Scagel explained to him that Randall had made his first knife in 1937. Randall Made Knives, Orlando, Florida has not been able to keep up with the orders despite being around for 82 years.

Randall has a wide range of knives, with a few dozen models. The Model 3 however, which Randall bills as an all-purpose outdoor, heavy-duty knife, is its most famous model. This is one the most copied knives worldwide. Either they imitated the Model 3 in their beginnings, or they call it something else.

The Model 3’s fit and finish have not changed much over time, except for the fact that it is now infinitely more comfortable. Randall started out using automotive leaf springs to make blades. But, they soon changed to Swedish-01 tool steel. Standard is the stacked-leather hand, though there are many alternatives. Additionally, the stainless steel dome nut which was used to keep the handle in position has been replaced.

A Randall will not hold its edge forever and ever. Bo decided that it was best to create something that can be easily re-sharpened. Randalls have a razor-like edge if you are skilled in the art. One of the first ones I purchased, 1957, nearly tore my finger just five minutes after I got it home. In love I was.

Spyderco Bow River Bb46G

Best Affordable Hunting Knife Check Price Spyderco is known for pioneering the modern pocket-clip, one-handed opening, EDC knives. They also produce impressive fixed blades such as the Bow River. The blade can be used as both a trailing point skinner and a double-duty slicer for the processing table. A flat-ground 8Cr13MoV Stainless Steel blade should be able to hold an edge fairly well. The knife can also be easily sharpened and will resist corrosion. It is nice to find a budget-friendly knife with a contoured G10 handle in white and black. Spyderco has done a great job creating the sheath. The pouch-style, leather pouch-style sheath holds the Bow River securely and is well finished. There are two things I have to complain about: the blade needs to be more sharpened and there should be some texture in the G10 grip handle. This will help with gripping the knife better, as the finish is too smooth. The Bow River’s price is still very competitive. The MSRP for the Bow River is $60.00. Specifications: Blade length 4,36 inches. ; Blade thickness is 0.10 in. ; Overall Length 8.14in. ; Weight 3.8 oz.

Cold Steel Click and Cut

Cold Steel Click-N Cut

Latest Replaceable Blade Hunting knife Price. Each year replacement blade knives appear to be more sought-after. Maybe it’s the versatility of having different blade-types readily available or the ability to swap-out a dull blade with a razor-sharp replacement. This is a popular category that will be around for a long time. Many of the world’s top knife companies make blades from this type. Cold Steel is a unique, practical take on the idea. Click-N-Cut, a design that doesn’t fold with a protective orange handle made of polymer and three different blade styles. These knives are not intended to be used as a scalpel or utility blade. Click-N-Cut also includes a traditional fine-edge cutter point and a guthook knife. It also comes with a utility-style serrated sword. The great thing about having the utility style serrated blade is it can be used for tasks that are tough on a fine edge blade, thus saving the gut hook and clip point for more hunting-specific tasks like skinning a big-game animal. It is a great blade-changing system. You can use the lever to change your blade. Reverse to reinstall. Click-N-Cut also comes with a hard-plastic sheath made from molded material. This protects the blades and keeps the whole package lightweight. MSRP: $31.95 Specifications (knife only); Total length: 6 in. Blade length is 2.5 in. • Blade thickness: 1.5mm. Weight: 2 oz.

Browning Primal Filer Medium

Browning Primal Folder, Medium – Classic Folding Hunting Knife. If you believe that the finest hunting knives should be carried in an EDC fashion, this is the knife for you. While the features list looks like a basic pocket clip folder with few extras, they are still useful for hunters. Primal Folders are made of proven materials, such as polymer and stainless steel. This allows you to save money on your knife. An 8Cr13MoV Stainless Steel droppoint with ambidextrous thumbstuds allows for easier opening. The knife is ideal for EDC and hunting. No-Frills Hunting Knife.

GIANTMOUSE GMF2

best hunting knife

Giantmouse Gmf2

The Best No-Frills Hunting Knife. I was impressed by the Giant Mouse pocket clip EDC knife that was sent to me for review. I was eager to try one of their fixed knives for hunting. They have been out of stock. But, given their price, I don’t think it’s surprising.

The GMF2 is an old-school style, full tang fixed blade with profiled green canvas micarta scales attached to the side with fasteners and spacers. It’s nothing fancy, it’s just a tried and true way of putting together a solid, no frills fixed blade. Bohler’s N690 Cobalt is used to make the low-drop point blade. It can serve both as a general purpose knife and as a hunting knife. The blade shape is well suited and could be used for a gutting knife, a skinning knife, and some processing. It is made of leather and features an internal belt loop. This keeps with the traditional motif. With an MSRP of $195 it’s no wonder this knife was sold out at the time this was written. But that’s okay, we’ll keep waiting. MSRP of $195 Specs: Blade length 3.62 in. ; Blade thickness 0.157 in. ; Total length 8.12 in. ; Weight 4.1 oz.

Gerber Randy Newberg EBS

best hunting knife

Gerber Randy Newberg Ebs

Gerber’s Randy Newber EBS replaceable knife kit is another entry in the changing-a-blade category. These blades can be taken care of like other knives and should not be thrown out. EBS is more of a toolkit than a knife. The handle fits into the box and locks the blades in place when not in use. You can store the entire set in your bag and have three sharp blades with a thoughtfully designed handle. Although there is no way to strap the knife or carry it around with you, it can be attached to your belt and pack. It’s intended for hunting and for removing critters. Three 440C stainless-steel blades are included in the EBS. They can be used for backstrap, caping/breakdown and multipurpose. Once you’re done thinking, it is quite simple to get the blades out of the bag. Although the handle is made out of rigid polymer, it has a rubber coating that makes it comfortable. Gerber may introduce other blade designs, such as a gut hook or a “zipper”. The MSRP for this blade is $60.00. ; Overall length 9.3in. ; Weight 4 1/8 oz.

CRKT BIWA

Crkt Biwa

Best Compact Hunting Knife Check Price The BIWA is one the smallest knives of the group, and certainly the most svelte (yes, “svelte:). The BIWA is a fixed-blade knife that harkens back to “trout” and “bird” days, when it was possible to keep trout in the home. It is made from 8Cr13MoV Stainless Steel and features a slim profile with a full tang blade, a narrow handle profile, and contoured G10 weights. It weighs only 1.6 ounces which makes it ideal for backcountry hunting. Although the knife was not designed for survival, its 3-inch blade can handle any type of hunting task. The molded, hard plastic sheath securely holds the BIWA and can even be used as a belt loop. The knife is great, aside from the small lanyard included. It retails for $49.99. Specs: Blade length 3.02 in. ; Blade thickness 0.11 inches. ; Overall length 6.63 In. ; Weight 2 oz. With sheath, The Best Duck’s Head Knife

Outdoor Edge: Duck Duo Outdoor Edge: Duck Duo

Best Duck Head Knife

These are not hunting knives for ducks. Instead, they are blades that can be used to hunt big game.

The combination knife set includes two fixed-blade full-tang knives. Each comes equipped with a non-slip rubberized TPR handle in safety orange. Both the bigger knife and the guthook are skinners. The smaller knife in the set can be used to cut fine tasks. The 8Cr14MoV steel is heat-treated to 57Hrc for both blades. The duck’s “beak” design slides between your pinky ring and ring finger. With the very slim handle in the middle, your middle digits are curled around it. While it can take some getting used to, it’s very easy to use and offers a great deal of control. While it’d be nice if there was less of a “beak”, that’s only a small gripe. Outdoor Edge offers a protective pouch-style sheath that protects your knives. It might not be the best handle, but you should try one to get a feel for it. The MSRP of this item is $54.96. Gut Hook Blade Width: 3.7 In. Drop point blade length 3.2in. Blade Thickness is 0.11 inches. Gut Hook Blade overall Length 7.2 in. Drop Point Blade Overall 6.8 in. Total Weight 5.8 in.

Benchmade Meatcrafter

Benchmade Meatcrafter

Best Butchering and Processing Knife Check Price When Benchmade told us about the Meatcrafter , a high-end knife for processing game, did we want to include it in our round up of best hunting knives? Yes. It’s true. The hard but rewarding part of this work is finishing the cutting to get the meat onto the plate. This is not the type of fixed knife that you would use in backcountry survival. The idea is that it’s not meant to be. Ultimately, this is a boning knife that has the right qualities to debone, trim, and break down primal cuts. Built from a Benchmade stainless steel with powdered-metal technology CMP154, this 6-inch cutting edge is thin and flexible. There are many things to consider when processing meat. It’s not easy to process meats. The handle is made out of Santoprene (a rubber-like substance) that has been over-molded. This allows for a strong grip even in wet and bloody hands. Even though the Meatcrafter is not something you will be able to strap onto your backpack or hip, it still includes a Boltaron Sheath capable of handling any rough terrain. This is a fantastic knife that you can use at camp, work, home, or in any other setting where meats are being butchered. MSRP is $160. Specs: Blade length 6.08 in. ; Blade thickness 0.09in. ; Overall length 11.06 in. ; Weight 3.24 oz.

Big-Game Hunting.

We researched and tested the most effective backpacks for big game hunting, including elk and deer. These top hunting packs shone through.

Before I get into the specifics, a word about my selections: I don’t like huge knives for hunting, as I feel they are more dangerous to the user when it’s dark, rainy, slippery, or God knows what else. Also, they are heavier.

And I don’t like gut-hooks, as I feel a well-handled knife does the job of opening the body cavity just fine. You can carry it if you like. That’s your bag, it’s mine.

Final thoughts, for hunting I like fixed-blade knives. You have the option to use a fixed-blade knife if your hunter needs to go into survival or bushcraft mode. Folding knives are a good option, and I have included some.

There are two features common to all knives a handle and a blade. Beyond that, though, knives can get very specialized depending on their ultimate use. So-called camp or survival knives, for example, have large blades that can be used to cut through most outdoor tasks. The flipper or everyday knife are more lightweight and foldable, making them easy to store in a pocket.

As a general rule, hunt knives have blades approximately 3.5″ to 4.5″. The knife might become difficult to use if it is much longer than this. Hunting knife handles can be up to 4 inches long and feature a grippy texture. This is great for dealing with mess while processing the game. The blade material can be used in the same way as other knives. Popular steels include D2, M4, Crucible Industries’ CPM, and Crucible Industries’ CPM. Modern steels can be easily sharpened, and they can keep their edge for long enough to withstand a hunting expedition.
