It’s easy to pair them with or without socks. But, they can also be used in winter, so it is worth washing the insole regularly. You can machine wash them, which is great. But, you should invest $98 into a color with a high level of dirt and scratches (read: not in white).

Does Allbirds Wool Runners live to their claims? And are they a suitable travel shoe? The wool shoes have been put through their paces to find out whether they’re worth the investment.

When our friend from New Zealand wore them in 2016, shoes. She claimed these shoes (which were made from New Zealand merino wool) were super comfortable they certainly looked comfortable. They were then seen all around New York City, so we set out to test them ourselves.

I’ve had my Allbirds Wool Runners for about 12 months we’ve spent a good amount of time pounding the pavement with these shoes so we wanted to do our own Allbirds Review.

UPDATE – This article was originally published in October 2018, so I had more time to use my Allbirds Wool Runners. These runner were great for keeping my feet warm in NYC winters. However, they didn’t work well when we had to wear them in the rain/winter muck.

While they do show some signs of wear, there aren’t any major problems. According to other Allbirds owners, their shoes can last for between 8-10 years with minimal use. My experience is similar.

UPDATE 2, Now that the weather has gotten a bit warmer, I tested the Allbirds Tree Runners Allbirds Tree Runners review. UPDATE 3, Allbirds released its water-resistant Allbirds Mizzle Runners/Runner-Ups, as well as Dashers. I’m wearing them as we speak and I’ll write up a review once I put a few more miles on them.

Final Thoughts

What is Allbirds? And How Are The Shoes Different?

Tim Brown, the shoe’s co-founder, sought to design a shoe that would both be wearable and green. Allbirds achieves this through the use of merino Wool from New Zealand’s large sheep population.

Allbirds are comfortable

Credit: Reviewed / Jackson Ruckar When looking for shoes, I’m most interested in seeing how long I can bear to stay in a pair over 24 hours. Allbirds’ comfort is unbeatable. It fits comfortably against your feet with a tapered, long-lasting toe. The sole has a raised heel for great arch support.

They are light and comfortable, thanks to the lightweight woolen soles. When I first gifted my mother a pair (who is notoriously hard to please when it comes to shoes), she compared the experience to walking on a cloud.

You can also wear these shoes without socks. You can wear the sneakers without socks. These sneakers are anti-bacterial and moisture-wicking because they have merino Wool construction. This is a characteristic of cute sheep’s clothing. Shoes that do not require frequent application of Gold Bond powder are a blessing for me. I have very smelly feet, especially in the summer heat.

Is Allbirds waterproof?

Allbirds’ Mizzle range, which includes the Wool runners we tested and reviewed, has a waterproof line. Mizzle also includes the Wool Runners Runners Ups. These are now equipped with rubber treads, a strengthened sole and brand-patented Paddle Guard protection, which wicks off water.

According to company, these new water-repellant shoes (and weather resistant) have a “breathable bio-based sunscreen living underneath a reinforced wool top treated with a fluorine free coating. Natural rubber is used to make the treads of the Wool Runner Mizzle Wool Runner Up Mizzle. The brand says it’s “a renewable alternative to petroleum-based synthetic rubber.” The new line is slightly more expensive than the original shoes. Wool Runner Mizzle retails at $115, compared to regular Wool Runners of $98. The Wool Runner-Up Mizzle is $135 compared to the Tree Topper’s $115 (the Tree Topper , made from eucalyptus trees, is the most similar style to the Wool Runner-Up).

Merino wool makes sense for sneakers

While wool can be thought of as itchy and warm, Allbirds’ wool has two faces. One is a soft-feeling interior that doesn’t itch and the other exterior.

The wool is made with Allbirds special construction and has amazing natural qualities that makes for great sneakers. They’re light, breathable, cool, warm, and resistant to odors. And the best part is, you can throw these sneakers in the washing machine, instead of meticulously scrubbing away stains like you would with traditional sneakers. Allbirds are the best option if you are looking for sneakers that will last, be durable, look great, and still cost-effective.

Allbirds expanded its product line significantly in the years since it was founded. Allbirds now has eight styles of shoe, ranging from the women’s low-top sneakers to three sock designs. Allbirds Allbirds Women’s Wool Runners September 2017 Review: Silicon Valley seems to be obsessed with these wool shoes. To add a casual sporty feel to sneakers, I wear them with skirts and dresses. My Allbirds Runners white were a great addition to my weekend outfit.

These shoes came in handy after I spent the past day in heeled boots. My feet felt great and it was a welcome relief. Bright white shoes are something I would normally worry about. However, I do not have to be concerned about dirt or scuffs as I can simply throw them in the washer at anytime.

April 2021 update: Wool Runners remain one of my favourite sneakers because of their supportive and soft comfort. I used my shoes without socks. But now, they are even more comfortable when I wear socks. The insoles can become stale if left unattended for too long. I’ve found this out from personal experience. You can also hand wash the insoles.

White shoes are my favorite, but they require more maintenance than the others Allbirds has to offer. The only thing I wish I could change is the color. Fortunately, you have many choices.

It is important to remember that the soles of the shoes wear down over time and feel less comfortable. These shoes won’t last as long if worn frequently. They’re still comfortable enough to wear them every day.

Allbirds Allbirds Women’s Wool Runners September 2017 Review. I don’t usually wear sneakers, but I want them to feel comfortable and trendy. These Allbirds Runners fulfill both of these requirements. The shoes of merino Wool are so soft they make you squeal when you first get them!

Although sneakers have been worn without socks in the past, it was something I never tried before. The wool is so soft and silky, it made me feel like a pro. They’re super comfy to wear, light and breathable.

April 2021 Update: Although I don’t wear the Allbird runners very often, I’m not able to speak for their durability. However, they have held up well to light wear. After a long hike I took them with me, they became a little dirty. I hand washed them and they were as good as new. You’ve probably seen how simple it can be to wash sneakers without damaging them. They also seem to get more comfortable with age as they mold to my feet.

Can Allbirds be trusted?

Allbirds Tree Dashers were also excellent quality. We tested them. Although there are other options for wool shoes, the Allbirds Tree Dashers stand out from the rest.
