Avocado Green/Melissa Kruse Avocado continues to lead the way in organic mattresses, in large part because it makes all its products in its California-based factory and has complete control over the supply chain. Organic mattresses don’t have toxic chemical fire retardants, off-gassing chemicals or foams like conventional ones. Avocado currently make seven different mattresses, plus bedding, bed frames and furniture.

First Impressions
After unboxing the Avocado Green mattress, it decompressed quickly and released zero off-gassing aroma. The Avocado Green mattress immediately made me feel comfortable and relaxed when I laid down. It wasn’t too soft or too firm, and I felt well-supported. Every position felt comfortable and I felt most at home in my stomach. I noticed that the mattress wasn’t too firm to accommodate my softer body parts.
This mattress is rated 7 out of 10 on the firmness scale, which means it has a medium-firm feel (called “gentle firm” on the Avocado site). If you have back pain or are a stomach, back or stomach sleeping person this mattress is ideal.
Avocado Green’s density rating is 7/10. This makes it great for back or stomach sleepers. I found that this was the best position to feel most at home in.
Avocado Green is available with an optional pillow top. This will provide additional pressure relief and cushioning. A few reviews suggest that after sleeping for some time the mattress becomes more comfortable.
For those who prefer a soft feel, the Avocado Green mattress comes with an optional pillowtop.
Edge Support And Motion Transfer
To test the support of the Avocado green’s edges, I sat on the Avocado Green and laid down close to them to feel how it felt. I didn’t feel like I was going to roll off at any point while I slept on it, either. This surprised me after I read about Avocado Green’s mattress and how the support coils were arranged to reach the edges.
The mattress failed to perform in motion isolation tests, which was inconsistent with what I expected from the reviews. When I tried to move around on the mattress or stand up, the water glass I placed next to me was not stable. The Avocado Green had very little to brag about motion transfer-wise, at least in the twin size . This is fine with me as I sleep alone, but may not be a great attribute if your sleeping partner is restless on a larger mattress.

Additional Shipping Option
After reviewing several mattress-ina-box products, I know it’s crucial to be able to predict when the product will be delivered. None have ever arrived late or damaged, but there have been times when I’ve stepped out of the house to find a mattress in my driveway when I get home. Avocado is very specific about when you will be at home. Avocado’s shipping representatives called me approximately one week before my order arrived. They worked with me to arrange a time that would work for me.
You also have the option for the shipper to come into your home and set the product for you. It was an option I wanted to explore to find out how it works. While I unboxed the product myself to show you how it works, I did enjoy not having to bring the mattress from my driveway into my house as they are typically at least 70 pounds. Notice that the box is the exact size of the mattress. A Proof of Pickup ticket will be needed to ensure that the mattress is not left unattended.
Avocado Mattress Overview
Avocado Vegan mattress and Avocado Vegan are both latex hybrids made from GOLS certified organic latex sourced directly from farmers. The base is pocketed coils with a support base. It creates a solid bed that has a rating of 7/10. Avocado mattresses also come with a 2 inch latex pillow-top which gives you a medium-firm surface.
Avocado, an eco-friendly firm, makes their mattresses with natural and certified organic GOTS components. The Green features an organic wool comfort layer, while the Vegan replaces this with organic cotton.
Both Vegan and Avocado Green mattresses are excellent, but this doesn’t necessarily mean that either one is the best. In this review, we’ll walk you through all the details you’ll need to make your decision.
These are not suitable for…
For side sleepers that are less inclined to have pain in the hips or shoulders, Avocado mattresses offer good support to light-weight sleepers. But, the firmness of the Avocado mattress can cause pressure on the hips or shoulders in side sleepers who are this weight.
Sleepers who prefer all-foam mattresses. Avocado mattresses are latex-hybrid mattresses that lack memory foam or memory foam hybrid mattress conforming pressure relief.

Avocado Green Mattress Review. My Thoughts, 3 Years Later
Wondering how that organic mattress I love so much is still holding up three years later AND with a new baby sharing it? I am sharing my thoughts and updated reviews of Avocado Green Mattresses. Yes, there are two. We are going to buy a third. I watch HGTV a lot for home renovations and homebuying programs.
Each episode ends with a happy ending. There have been many times that I wondered about the feelings of the show’s cast members a few years after the fact or what they did to change things.
They were unable to decorate the room after all the props were gone. How did they decorate after all the props were gone? Do they still love the flooring/furniture/windows that they chose/bought/installed?
It would be great if every TV show could have a second season, either one year later or five years later. That way we can see how the series has developed.
Another obsession is reading online reviews. I try to avoid making decisions quickly because I know I will not make mistakes.
There are likely more people who feel the same way as me. I know this because many readers asked me if I still recommend Avocado Green Mattress.

Avocado Green Mattress is a company that I discovered three years ago when I was looking for an eco-friendly alternative to my traditional innerspring mattress.

I’ve used an Avocado pillowtop bed for 36 months. It was comfortable, supportive, and easy to bounce on. The mattress is due to be rotated again. Avocado is an L.A.-based brand that is on a mission making bedding more sustainable. If you don’t know it, it’s a Climate Neutral B-Corp with many environmental awards to its credit. The brand’s mattresses are something I have long wanted to experience. Green Mattress is a mattress that I found appealing, and it has a few feel-good factors. First, it bills itself as an eco-conscious mattress that sources its products from organic-certified latex, wool, and cotton. Reviews sites such as Sleepopolis and CNET have overwhelmingly chosen it for their organic mattresses.
This is the most well-known brand mattress. The Green Mattress is the hybrid version that offers the best of both worlds: A combination of 1,400 springy support coils made from steel (arranged in ergonomically designed zones to support your body) and layers latex foam. It is designed to be medium-firm in softness and so will suit combination back or side sleepers such as myself.
Because I enjoy mattresses that are slightly softer but still supportive (I’ve slept on Casper mattresses before, for reference, and currently sleep on the Aviya Luxury Firm Hybrid ), I also opted for the pillow top version of the mattress which added an additional two-inch, non-removable layer of organic-certified latex rubber foam on top which I was looking forward to putting to the test.
