Performance

OEMs giving more precise and accurate information about their product differences is one trend I noticed. Cobra and their RADSPEED drivetrains are participating in this, and it is something that I applaud. According to their website, the RADSPEED targets 0-15 handicaps, while the RADSPEED XB targets 5-15. It claims that the RADSPEED has the highest ball speed, spin, launch and workability among the new Cobra drivers. These differences in performance are due to “forward biased RADIAL Weighting”, while the RADSPEED XB is “back biassed RADIALWEIGHTING”.

When I launch a club to test it, one number usually jumps from the launch monitor. There were two things that I needed to know about the Cobra RADSPEED Cobra driver: spin rate and ball speed. To test the weight forward position, I noticed very low spin speeds and high ball speed. The downside of the weight forward position is it reduces driver forgiveness. The weight forward position allowed me to hit very high peak balls speeds but was taxed heavily for mishits.

My numbers started to move when I put the weight in the back. Not only did the spin increase, but so did the forgiveness. My average ball speed improved with this less forgiving setup, as you can see from the graph. Regarding spin, it’s always worth mentioning that you may see larger or smaller differences depending on your swing.

It didn’t seem to have a significant impact on my feelings. I typically find that when the weight moves forward to back, one setting is good for me and one is terrible. With the RADSPEED driver, both were very comfortable. Cobra may have contributed to this by radial weighting.

Cobra went the extra mile with the shaft options for the RADSPEED driver. From Project X, they’re offering the HZRDUS Smoke RDX Blue [full review HERE ], which is counterbalanced with a fairly stiff tip. There are two Fujikura MotoreX choices [reviews HERE]. Motore X F3 has two versions: stiff or regular. It is a solid option for those with medium to advanced transition who want a mid-launch shaft that can spin mid-spin. Motore X F1 comes in two versions: stiff and X. This motore is more heavy with a stiffer shaft, which allows for greater speed and aggression.

Cobra Radspeed Drivers Review

In recent years, Cobra have struck a nice balance within the golf driver market. This club is known for being the best among amateur golf players and the longest-serving driver on the PGA Tour. That’s pretty good.

The F9 Speedback driver has been around for a while and it continues to be the preferred driver for anyone looking online to purchase the best-value big stick. Speedzone’s Speedzone drivers range impressed me very much last year and I felt both models had something. Cobra produces drivers at a lower price than the “big four”, while still offering comparable performance. Pound for pound the best value driver on the market? This would require you to declare…

This year’s model attempting to carry on this trend of success is the Cobra King Radspeed. It is now priced at a 3. This makes a significant psychological difference to price-conscious golfers. Inspired by an engineering term, the ‘radiusof gyration’, this radial-weighting idea was used to name it.

Even though this might sound confusing to some people, Cobra are increasing distances between the front- and backweights in their club heads. Cobra says this creates the ideal combination of speed and spin, as well as forgiveness.

Before I get into the details of my review, it is important to mention the name. Forgive me Cobra but when I hear the word ‘Rad’ I think of 90’s American films and TV series’. Bill, Ted, you can have your fill.

OUR TAKE : RadSpeed impressed during GOLF ClubTest with its hammer sound and powerful feel. A tester raved about the “I love it” aesthetic. There’s some slight carbon fiber you can see in the back, and you can’t go wrong with matte black. Cobra’s latest big-stick was well received by all. The new adjustable sole weighting system allowed for lower spin, more penetration and better flight. Additionally the unique CNC-milled face provided alignment help to frame the ball at the address. It’s easy to see why this neon yellow and black beauty is Bryson’s driver of choice. THE DETAILS: Cobra is known to push boundaries with its technologies. Cobra is not letting this happen again. Cobra has reimagined the sole weighting mechanism, as well as its standout designs (such as the CNC infinity machined face, carbon fiber crown, and crown), based upon these outstanding designs. Radius Of Gyration, a common engineering formula (“Rad”) was used by the OEM to distribute the driver’s soles weights further back and forward of the head. This allowed for performance enhancements across the entire lineup. RadSpeed’s standard head is smaller and less spinny, RadSpeed XB (“Xtreme Back”) weight is greater launching, more forgiving and RadSpeed XD (Xtreme Draw) has heavier heel weighting, which encourages a draw. This year’s edition will be no different. Cobra has completely re-imagined the sole weighting system. For desired performance enhancements across the entire lineup, Cobra employed tenets derived from an engineering formula called Radius of Gyration. RadSpeed XB, which is a higher launching weight and spinning head than RadSpeed Standard, is more forgiving. RadSpeed XD (“Xtreme Draw”) is a heavy-heel weight that encourages a draw-shot.

What does the “Rad” in “Radspeed” mean?

Cobra believes that “rad”, a slang term, is similar to “cool” or sweet. However, Cobra is trying to improve the Radius of Gyration. Cobra states that this is the distance between the clubs center of gravity (CG), to the place where the extra weights are. Cobra, as an example, tried to shift the weights from the center of gravity (CG) to the outer edges of the cars to increase their MOI and boost performance. With a wider radius from the sole weights to the CG of the Radspeed clubs, Cobra is able to achieve more “rad” speed. Cobra is able to dial in its spin and trajectory through the whole line up thanks to the use of radial weighting.
