My Copper Cow Review Is This Vietnamese Coffee Subscription Worth Trying?

Does this Vietnamese Coffee Subscription make sense?

If you’re a fan of Shark Tank, the reality show on ABC that invites budding entrepreneurs to pitch their business ideas to a group of blood-thirsty investors, you may have also found The Pitch, a podcast from Gimlet Media with a similar concept. Copper Cow is a podcast that I love. The founder Debbie Wei Mullin first introduced Copper Cow to me in 2019. Copper Cow’s idea is clever: Vietnamese pour-over coffee, which doesn’t require any additional equipment. No ceramic dripper, no metal Phin filter, no Chemex. Hot water, a cup and a coffee mug are all you need.

The idea stuck with me, so when Copper Cow reached out to see if we’d be interested in reviewing their coffee, I was excited. Could the creative packaging work? Would it be easy to use? Could it deliver great coffee every time?

Vietnamese Coffee is a hot topic in my home right now. Nguyen Coffee Supply was recently reviewed and I have been enjoying the occasional cup of Vietnamese coffee made with one of the Phin filter that arrived in my shipment. Copper Cow created an alternative way of preparing coffee that produces a concentrated, rich cup. Copper Cow’s invention isn’t difficult to make coffee with a Phin. But I was impressed by their innovation and wanted to find out how it would perform for me.

The “Classic Subscription”, which is available from, works well. The box contained 20 black coffee packets, 20 creamers and two samples of flavored coffees.

I received a flyer introducing the flavored coffee in my box, salted caramel.

Copper Cow’s standard coffee blend is 70% Robusta, 30% Arabica beans. American roasters rarely use Robusta coffee beans, though they are highly valued in Vietnam due to their rich flavor and high amount of caffeine. This coffee blend is already ground and ready for use with a pour-over filter. You will find instructions to prepare the coffee on the back. Here’s a description of the coffee from Copper Cow:

Although it may seem surprising that this is “Just Black”, you will be surprised to learn how rich and complex the coffee really is. You can say it’s bold and blunt, straight to the point, and impossibly smooth. When left on its own, the black coffee is able to show off all the flavorings in our Vietnamese blend. This includes the mocha and nut undertones as well as the bite that keeps it interesting.

Sweetened condensed is the traditional way of serving Vietnamese coffee. The “Classic Subscription”, which sends California sweetened milk packets, will provide sweetened condensed water pre-portioned. The product contains only milk, sugar, and no preservatives. A serving of this product contains around 100 calories.

Portable Vietnamese-Pour Over Coffee

This is also true of coffee. The perfect cup of coffee can be a matter of debate. We have many options, from cowboy coffee that is brewed right in the ground to instant coffee and tea-bag coffee packets.

The first cup was taken on a Banff National Park trail, followed by another two cups while we sat on Oahu beaches at sunrise. This is not only for backpacking, but it’s great to have in your pack with you.

It’s delicious coffee. Another box was purchased and I will gift it to outdoor enthusiasts this Christmas. The experience of making pour-over coffee that tastes good and can be enjoyed at places like a beach at sunrise or camp in the backcountry, is worth a little bit more cost and pack weight sometimes. This is a luxury you can have out in the wilderness.

Each day seems to bring new coffee varieties, some with more caffeine or smoother tasting. Copper Cow makes a great Vietnamese coffee. Although Vietnamese coffee is not new. Vietnamese coffee is my absolute favorite. Although I need to watch my milk intake, I still love Vietnamese coffee. I tried all kinds of coffees as I went along my coffee adventure. Different brewing methods have different tastes and I am able to discern the difference between good and bad coffee. This does not mean that I won’t continue to drink coffee. It means I learn something new about it.

Vietnamese coffee can be bought at local shops. Then, I choose the food that suits my mood. I always get grilled chicken and basil rolls, which I think about at least once every day of my life, because they’re a perfect food. The reason I limit my order to two is that I do not want to eat more than the recommended amount (4-6). My ability to resist certain food or drink is best managed this way. I have to pace myself, and wait until the urge is so uncontrollable that my willpower has crumbled and I can’t fucking stand it anymore. This is why I talk about the damn rolls. Probably because I haven’t had them in a week and a half, and I’m starving for them.

Copper Cow Coffee was a slick ad I found on Instagram. I wanted to order the rolls immediately. I didn’t order food but started browsing the Copper Cow website. Before I try something new, I do my research. Since the coffee is packaged, I want to make sure I’m happy with my choice. Debbie Wei is the founder of this brand. Debbie studied sustainability while in college. Her goal was to produce a Vietnamese cup-of-joe that doesn’t sacrifice quality nor add to waste. The coffee is 70% Robusta and 30% Arabica, both grown in Vietnam. This method has been chosen for its efficiency. A pour over coffee brews consistently smoother and more flavorful beans every time. Copper Cow’s coffee can be packed in single packets, making it easy to take with you. You can also choose from a variety of flavors. The process for how to make the coffee is straightforward as hell. Although it may seem daunting, all that is required to make the coffee is place the filter into a mug, and then pour hot water over the filter. It’s delicious. The flavor is smooth, and it doesn’t remind me of any travel-friendly or portable coffee I’ve ever had before. It’s not like those shitty packets of coffee in hotel rooms that taste like it’s from a gas station no matter how you slice or dice it. The coffee has been crafted with quality in mind and care. It comes with a perfect creamer. It is very sweet, which is to be expected, but it’s only made of milk and sugar. It doesn’t contain any unidentifiable sweeteners or ingredients, so it can be used as-is.

Aside from using the traditional pour over method, there are other ways to enjoy Copper Cow Coffee . I want to try using the coffee to make cold brew or an iced coffee (instructions for how to do this are included on the box!!). Copper Cow’s entire range of flavors is amazing and I look forward to exploring more. It is highly recommended and I give it a rating of 10/10.
