I am looking for a nice dive watch and I really like the look of the Deep Blue Sea Ram. Some of the watches they sell are cheap and ugly. Their website is something that makes me distrust the company. Perhaps it is their pricing. Or maybe it’s another reason. Deep Blue watches could be considered garbage. I do know that they make two or three $2000 watches but the also make a lot of very low priced watches with “good specs”.

Deep Blue is not what I am looking for. I’m just wondering about the quality of Deep Blue. The $400 that I spent ($300 on a watch and $79 on a bracelet) is better spent somewhere else.

Keep in mind that watches are made up of two things: one is the movement, and another is everything else. DB uses movements from other companies. These include Seiko/Miyota/Citizen/ETA, ETA and Sellita. The Sellita/ETA DB watch prices reflect ETA increasing the supply of their movements, and Sellita taking advantage by increasing their own prices. You won’t see any difference in the performance when a DB watch has a certain movement than what you will see on any other watch.

DB has the edge in terms of construction, materials, and design ergonomics. There are other brands that can match it, but they are not as great. Those other makers offer watches at prices similar too or greater than DB in most cases. Obris Morgan may come in a tick or two less expensive, but if you have concerns about the company, I suggest you eschew Obris Morgan as their retailers with whom I’ve spoken report that they are among the most difficult manufacturers to keep in touch with and from which one can expect timely replies/responses when one does finally get hold of them.

Having said that, let’s face facts. The watch is not unique, complex or elusive in terms of movement or construction. Your concern about the company’s reputation is unfounded. When the watch arrives to your address and you have decided that you like it you will not be able contact the company. For a watch to contain a “dud”, you’d need to be among the one in a million consumers that has purchased it.
