Jimdo Overview

So, what exactly is Jimdo?

Jimdo is an online platform that provides everything you need to make your own website. You can make anything from a business site or blog to an ecommerce store – all without having to use code!

Website Builder Guru is dedicated to helping you discover the true value of Jimdo.

So you don’t have to, we’ve done multiple research and run numerous tests on Jimdo.

Here’s a review that will cover the main areas to consider when building your own website. You’ll see how Jimdo compares to the rest.

Customer satisfaction

56% of Jimdo users we spoke to said they’d recommend it to a friend.

This tells you how divided Jimdo is. It is simple and elegant, yet it remains basic and limited.

Wix offers the most flexible website builders. Wix allows you to be creative and can create anything (read our Wix review here). Squarespace, on the other hand, offers great templates, is elegant, and is ideal for creative people.

WordPress.Com

Get a Price Check Our WordPress.com Reviews Dolphin displays possible business links and allows you to click on one of them. Or you can just skip it if it isn’t. Jimdo also wants to know about the purpose for your site. This could include promoting events, businesses, portfolios, selling services or goods online. Then you choose from a more specific list with choices like Bakery and Fast Food. Then you will be able to connect your Instagram account and upload images. Although that’s useful, I want to see Flickr and Facebook also here. Pick a style Modern or Elegant. Playful is another option. Jimdo will give you two options: you can either register a domain name or transfer an existing one. If you do not have one, you can purchase one at namecheap.com for 66c. Jimdo gives you an address under the domain jimdosite.com, if that is not enough.

How did it turn out? In my testing, the site that Jimdo produced after a bit of churning was remarkably on point. The site even included photos from the bagel shop that I tested. It was also appropriate in its copy (although it is a bit too exaggerated of Dave’s Bagels charms & quality). Things like menu items were filled with boilerplate copy, which required editing. Notable is also the fact that this site features responsive design as well as a GDPR-compliant Cookie Notice.

You can choose to go with the Jimdo standard site builder. First, you need to decide if you want to create a website, store, or blog. Next, you choose a subset like Bar & Restaurant and Community & Clubs. The next step is to create your site using a template. This can be done with almost all of the online website builders. At the free level you can find 15 attractive templates, as well as 40+ variants at the higher paid levels. It is possible to start from a blank web page. Some of these templates include a beautiful full-screen background. Jimdo illustrates how the template will appear on a widescreen and smartphone screen. After choosing your template, you choose an address in the form yoursite.jimdo.com. Like Dolphin-created domains, you also have the option to register custom domains with either a paid or unpaid account.

You can make money from your site

There are two basic ways to make money on your site: selling stuff and displaying ads. Sites with little traffic are more likely to be successful with the latter. The free accounts you can use to sell five products, the Pro account allows for 15 items and the Business account is unlimited. For sales to work, you have to complete your personal profile and enter your Pay. A Pay. The Pal Premier account and the Business account. You can also enter your pay information on other site builders. Pal login. Jimdo will let you test an order. And its shopping cart experience was as great as any I have seen.

You have the option to add variations of your product as well as shipping costs. You can also set the available item quantity, but it doesn’t decrement as people buy them. In the Store panel, you can see your order details, inventory and customers. Unlike most other site builders, Jimdo doesn’t offer a way for you to sell digital downloads, a deal-killer for certain kinds of online entrepreneurs.

To deliver store discount codes, you need a top-level business account. Jimdo has now added Stripe as an option for both payment processing and pay. Pal, for paid accounts only. Jimdo does not allow for newsletter sending or offering discounts or promotions. Jimdo’s web-based e-commerce options are much less than those of Squarespace Squarespace Weebly Wix.

Publishing Site and Other Settings

Jimdo offers a customized domain registration for Pro accounts. It is easy to set up and has a private option. However, the process of publishing your website is not very straightforward. For me, I favor builders that have clear Publish and Save options as well as Preview. In reality, my site was online on the open internet right from the beginning of its construction. Before publishing a site live, you should have the ability to preview it. You don’t have a scheduled publishing option.

Jimdo also offers the ability to move your website from one server host to another. Although this is a fairly common issue, Weebly has a way to help you. You can take your HMTL/CSS with you and transfer it anywhere you wish. Squarespace even lets you save your site in Word. Select format.

Managing Your Jimdo Site Using A Mobile App

Jimdo makes it easy to access your website on a tablet or smartphone with a mobile App for Android and i. OS. It’s called ‘Jimdo Creator’, and as this name suggests, it only works with the ‘Creator’ version of Jimdo.

It allows you to modify your site and manage orders.

Jimdo’s app received generally positive reviews on Android as well as i. OS; each platform has over 4 stars.

12. Alternatives to Jimdo

Many similar solutions are available for website construction.

Squarespace may be more expensive but it is well worth the investment. It has more feature options and templates. I find Squarespace particularly good for users who want to build a content-driven or portfolio website (note: if you’re interested in working with the Squarespace platform, do check out our Squarespace review If you’re looking for something similarly priced, but with a larger range of templates to choose from, take a look at Wix. This platform also offers e-commerce, but it is a lot cheaper. For a detailed review of Wix, or to see Wix for free, click Wix vs Word. You might be interested in Squarespace vs Wix Wix or Shopify.

Bigcommerce Shopify is our recommendation for anyone who’s looking to have a high-quality ecommerce solution.

(You could also consider Amazon for e-commerce applications. Although this platform is different from Jimdo, it is an “online marketplace” and not a website builder. However, it does have a large customer base which can be very effective in selling products. Check out our Amazon vs Shopify deep dive for more information on why and how you might use the platform for e-commerce).

Word is the best tool for creating an online publication that involves multiple authors, requires advanced content management, and publishes functionality. The best option is Press.

Jimdo’s Test: An Amazingly Fast Web Solution

Tooltester relies on readers such as you. You may receive an affiliate commission if you buy through one of our links. This commission will not affect your final price.

Providers of website builders have never been shy when it comes to making grand claims, with “websites in no time,” “your very own website in just 5 minutes,” and “a website in three simple steps” among the typical slogans used in marketing campaigns.

Jimdo was so focused on its clever Jimdo website maker, better known internally as Dolphin. They promise a tool that allows users to quickly build their website within three minutes.

This is a smart AI-based web editor, which is all the rage at present. They are aimed at users looking to create a website in a flash, without having to become an expert in coding overnight.

This type of website builder gathers all the information required to set up the basic website structure by running through a series of questions. The virtual set-up wizard also scours the user’s Google and Facebook accounts for any images and details to create a customized first draft of their website in a matter of minutes.

Keen to see for ourselves if it really is all that simple, we prepared to work our Tool. We tested the magic again, and ran this website wizard through its paces. Check out the detailed review for our verdict.
