Misfit Vapor X Smartwatch

The Misfit Vapor X is a fine Wear OS smartwatch, but it fails to justify its high price. It is possible to find other smartwatches for less money that are more powerful, have longer battery life and provide innovative features.

We saw a slew of smartwatches and fitness trackers at the IFA 2019 Berlin event. With so many options, it’s difficult for companies to set their products apart from the pack. In our Misfit Vapor X review, we’re going to show how Misfit is doing the opposite and instead sticking with a tried-and-true formula.

Vapor X represents the third Misfit Vapor model, and is the successor to Misfit Vapor 2. The device is based on Google’s WearOS platform and features all the great things about Android smartwatches. It also has many of the issues that can make Wear OS watches hard to recommend.

About our review: I used the Misfit Vapor X smartwatch for roughly a week, running Wear OS version 2.8 (based on Android 8.1 Oreo) with build number OWM1.181005.036.H3 on the August 5, 2019 security patch. It was paired up with a One. For the duration of this review, it was paired with a Plus 7 Pro.

Hardware, Design and What’s Inside The Box

Black watches with black straps are usually not my preference. They look too masculine and boring to me. This was not the colour combination I would choose, but it’s the only one that works for me. It’s sleek, simple and very easy to notice. It can match any look, from sporty to more formal. The stealth watchface isn’t for everyone. There are other styles and colors available.

Other than the glass top that houses a 1.2-inch AMOLED display and the lightweight aluminum alloy, the body of the device is softly matted. It’s beautiful, and it feels great to the touch. The crown functions as a scrolling tool and is flanked in the middle by two additional buttons. Google Pay defaults to one of these buttons. You can, however, change their location to launch any application or activity.

The heart rate sensor is located in the middle of the watch and there are also charging rings. My previous smartwatches have either had pins I had to precisely align or no pins, so I wasn’t familiar with this charging process. It works well though: The charger has two pins, but thanks to the rings, you can place the watch in any orientation and it’ll start filling up.

The VaporX’s strap (or the Sport Strap+, if you prefer the correct noun) was a great effort by Misfit. A quick-release strap of 20mm made from matte rubber and flexible rubber. It has many nice touches. Breathability is improved by having the underside ridges. The free loops are stopped from flying away and loosening the watch. Even the buckle can be removed quickly with a pin.

Even though I have relatively small wrists, the watch’s 42mm body doesn’t feel large or heavy on my wrist and I am very comfortable wearing it for a full day.

Misfit vapor X review: Forget the Fuss

Misfit Vapor X is the smartwatch that I have used most recently. Because it was so easy to use and didn’t have any annoying software, it’s the watch I’ve been wearing consistently through my review.

Misfit has chosen a more subtle design than a flashy one. This is because it can be worn with almost everything. Misfit VaporX has proven that there are better smartwatches than others, with so many disappointing smartwatches resulting in little irritations.

A minimalistic design. Small screen Misfit knows minimalism well, and the Vapor X proves that. It is simple and elegant, but it doesn’t lack identity. Even though Misfit is a sporting brand, the Vapor X isn’t too sportsy. It can be worn with almost any clothing, whether it’s a casual look or something more bold.

Sensibly, Misfit has abandoned the multiple model approach from the Vapor 2 and made just one Vapor X. This vape is light at just 43 grams. It has a slight curve at the edges that captures light, enhancing tactility while swiping. An oversized crown that is simultaneously a button or an interactive scrollwheel gives character to the screen. Both its texture and size make it simple to use. It is much simpler than the touch-sensitive bezel found on the Misfit Vapor. Smooth buttons flank the crown, ready to activate Google Pay and Google Fit, but you can customize what each button triggers.

A simple silicone strap of 20mm connects the straight lugs to them. However, it can attract lint if worn under a shirt. They’re flexible with channels on the underside that stop sweating. Metal and thin, the clasp was difficult to use. I had to take the watch out of the case in order for it not be removed from the strap. While it was relatively easy to fix it, it is slightly too small for the pin. To make it secure, I needed to gently bend the clasp arm.

It is bright and small, but the AMOLED screen of 1.2 inches is very visible. The bezel at the edge is quite large. Watch faces that have black backgrounds look better. If you don’t use a black background, it can be distracting. Outside visibility of the face was excellent. I didn’t have any issues seeing it. I used the always-on screen throughout my review, and paired with the right watch face it’s perfectly legible.

The Misfit Vapor X never looks out of place, too big, or too flashy either.

Design And Display

This device is very attractive to me. Although it is a bit unique, the design of this device looks great. And that’s sort of what the Misfit brand stands for. Fossil, a Fossil owned company, says it is designed for round pegs in square holes.

Smartwatch design, in general, comes in two forms. You can refer to my Fossil Gen 5 Smartwatch Fossil Sport reviews, which show each side. You can either get dressy or you can get sporty, and there isn’t much in-between. Fashion is fundamental to smartwatches. This is why it is so important. It is important to find a smartwatch that suits you and matches your style.

Misfit sent me the black model. However, it’s also available in other colors, such as champagne and rose gold. It has a sleek design. The watch is round and flat with flat sides. You will find three buttons to the right. There is a digital crown located in the middle. Customizable buttons at both the top- and bottom.

There are two charging rings at the bottom. It’s actually a fantastic solution. Fossil watches do not have wireless charging. This is an unusual feature that I dislike. Many watches I’ve used with pin-based charging have issues over time, since the pins under the watch get dirty. Two rings are included on this watch, and they can attach to the pins in the charger. Fossil’s Misfit smartwatch is compatible with this charging system. Bottom line: It will not get as dirty due to its larger charging surface.

The aluminum alloy makes it light at only 43g. It’s not as light as the Fossil Sport, but it seems like the right blend of fashion and comfort. Misfit wouldn’t have been able to make it any lighter. It’s very comfortable to wear, not only because of the weight, but also because it’s not too big or bulky, being 12mm thin.

Its 328ppi AMOLED screen is stunning. The edges of the smartwatch have been curved, making it one of my favorite. A bit of a bezel can be seen on devices with small frames like the smartwatch. OLED screens can provide blacks that are truly black, but you won’t notice this on a watchface with a black background.

Misfit Vapor X has a minimalist design that is reminiscent my Moto 360. Its circular, sleek design is stunning but doesn’t seem flashy.

Performance and Battery Life

The Misfit Vapor X includes a Qualcomm Snapdragon Wear 3100 chipset, 512MB RAM, and 4GB of storage. Performance is generally satisfactory. I experienced no issues with this Fossil Sport of similar specs, which is good news.

Qualcomm’s latest smartwatch chip, the Snapdragon Wear 3100, is now available. Qualcomm has called it big-small.tiny architecture. That means you can take BIG.LITTLE.LEVEL in mobile phones, and scale it down for wearables. This unlocks new power management features, such as a moving second-hand on the or colors on the ambient display. The only problem is finding a watch face that actually supports it. The Snapdragon Wear 3100 is still not mainstream. Therefore, most watch faces that you will find for it are designed for the Snapdragon Wear 2100.

Snapdragon Wear 3100 has another problem. The core architecture of the Snapdragon Wear 3100 remains Cortex-A7. This is the same as the original Android Wear smartwatches. Those used the Snapdragon 400 chipset, and little has been done since to actually improve performance.

Performance issues are caused by only having 512MB RAM. In my Fossil Gen 5 Smartwatch review, I saw how important a 1GB RAM upgrade can make. I also noticed how choked-up the Fossil Sport can be if it doesn’t have enough.

Like I said earlier, I believe fashion is more important that performance when it comes to smartwatches. Remember what purpose you are going to use your smartwatch for. I use it for primary functionality. It tells me the time and gives me notifications. The Misfit Vapor X does that fine. Even if some apps take a little longer to load or access services, that is acceptable.

The most essential thing is battery life. Everything I desire is to be able get through the daily grind. I don’t mind charging it at night. Unfortunately the Vapor X was unable to accomplish this feat for me. On more than one occasion, it died on me midday. The good news? It automatically switches to battery saver mode. Here you can see the current time but will not get any notifications.

There’s a setting on the watch to automatically turn on battery saver mode at 9%. I just wanted to point that out because it’s weirdly specific.

Enjoy All the Sharing Options Available for: Misfit’S VaporX Lightweight Wear Os Smartwatch

Misfit launched the VaporX Wear OS smartwatch, which is claimed to be its most lightweight and efficient. It has a 1.19 inch AMOLED screen and a 42mm aluminum case that is 43g. To compare, we haven’t included the weight of any previous Vapor watches on their respective spec sheets. Misfit has provided a complete breakdown. The Vapor X features the Qualcomm Snapdragon 3100 processor. Misfit says that you can expect to have a full working day with its battery-saving feature. It has 4GB of internal storage and 512MB of RAM. (If you want something more powerful, Fossil’s new Gen 5 watch is an exception: it has 1GB of RAM and 8GB of storage. It is not clear if adding RAM to a WearOS-based device will improve its performance. However, Vapor X’s standard specs won’t cause much harm.

Actually, the Vapor X shares a lot with the Gen 5 Both support on-device GPS, NFC for Google Pay, a heart rate sensor, and are waterproof up to 30 meters deep. These similarities can’t be considered coincidences, given that Misfit is part of Fossil group. There are many other differences. There are also some differences in their style. For example, the Gen 5 watch has a more casual look while the Vapor X looks more professional. The Gen 5 features a speaker, a feature not indicated on the Vapor X spec sheet, and later in the fall Fossil plans to release an app for the Gen 5 that allows i. OS users to pick up calls right on the watch , a first for a Wear OS device.

Misfit’s Vapor X has an introductory price starting at $199.99. This is $80 cheaper than the eventual $279.99. While we haven’t tried the VaporX yet, $199.99 seemed like an appropriate price for a watch without as many bells and whistles as the $295 Fossil Gen 5 (which is also available at $199.99).

Does Misfit Vapor X Have A Speaker?

The hardware component of the Vapor X was my greatest disappointment, aside from Wear OS’s quirks. Misfit’s internals are the same as those used in the Fossil Sport. This is despite the fact that they share the same company. It has the same RAM and storage, but no speaker.
