The guys and me had the opportunity to tour PING’s Scottsdale facility at last year’s TST Newport Cup. I’d never owned a PING club, but I was excited all the same. PING is well known as an OEM leader in engineering, so their U.S. operation makes them stand out. They have an amazing setup, even though many of their clubs are not cast in America anymore.

My instinct was to get the latest PING product, even if it meant reliving the amazing shop tour. When the PING G-series woods became available for review, I was eager to try them.

Even though they lack the flashiness or utility of hybrids, fairway woodens are hot right now. Taylor. Made used them over many years for their marketing, and PING just recently picked up that same role. Numberless of the G series fairwaywoods may now be most well-known.

Are they worth the hype? Let’s take a look.

Design and Technology The new G series woods carry over much of the design esthetic from the previous G30 generation, and likewise much of the same technology.

Ping G Fairway Wood Review: Bottom Line

Our view is that fairway woods must be very versatile. Although you must launch them from the fairway, it is also important to have a fallback on them in tight tee shots. Our Ping G fairway has the ability to do both.

Fairways And Greens

Since I see so many clubs every year, I was told by my friends that I should be a critic. G400 driver, fairway and hybrid have changed all that. Still try what’s new but come back to the G400’s. I began with the G400 driver and then moved up to the G400 Max-9 degree, with point 6 added. Over 70 and the drive range was only 250 yards. Now, they can be pushed to the 270-range (Not carry), The best part is I’m hitting more fairways. Because it’s 48 inches with the ALTA CB X Flex it can be used by younger players. It was 20 yards longer than the driver’s drive, so I promised everyone that it would take them all to do it. One ROLEX17/18 girl was ranked and tried it. She got 20 yards between her best tee balls and the fairways each time. All who attempted it were eager to purchase it. Although the hybrid G400 and fairway are starting to make a comeback, I still love to play with tools. My G400 fairway 14.5 measures 13.9″ and is 44.5″. G400 hybrid has a 19 degree angle and the ALTA CB X Flex is extended to 41.5″. The X Flex’s ball flight is excellent on all clubs. The grips have been modified to get the perfect feel, but I find it works well for me. Two wraps on standard-sized tour velvet style grips. Never would I have imagined using X flex because other model X shafts can be too rigid. Recently purchased the G400 13 Degree Stretch, with a PING Tour X 43” shaft. I can’t wait for it to perform with the ALTA3 wood shaft and other settings.

Yes.

I highly recommend this product.
