Performance

Let’s jump right into the important question. Was PING capable of maintaining the G410 Plus’s adaptability, but also increasing forgiveness? Yes. The G425 Max delivers on that promise in a big way.

Comparing the G425 Max with my G410 Plus I noticed a clear difference. The G425 Max has more forgiveness. With the G425 Max driver, mishits were always a bit faster and had more reliable launch numbers. The course is shorter, so you’re less likely to miss your best swings. When comparing G425 Max to other market players, the G425 Max has the most forgiveness. To ensure maximum consistency on the green, I recommend the G425Max driver.

What’s impressive is that the G425 Max achieves this boosted forgiveness without giving up adjustability. The same adapter is used for this driver as the previous, which means you can use any of the eight same shafts. You can adjust loft up to 1.5 degrees. You can place the 26-gram back weight in one of three positions: Fade, Neutral or Draw. Each position affects the ball flight, as well the sweet spot position.

As one of the leaders in custom fitting, PING offers a great array of stock shafts in the G425 Max driver. These three models include the ALTA CB55Slate and PING Tour proprietary models. PING also has Aldila Rogue White 120 MSI [review HERE] and Mitsubishi Tensei AV Orange 55 and 65 gram options for those players looking to have a hot shaft.

The Test

Ping allowed me to go to October and get fitted for the best shaft length. While I couldn’t hit the G425 as it was classified back then, I did try the G410 heads. The LST9 degree seemed to be the most suitable for me. When I was given the G425 Driver, it was the LST model. I had to use the same shaft. This gave me the best club for me and allowed me to give an honest evaluation.

Comparing the driver to the G410 LST in LSH Auto, Mercedes Benz Stockport and using Trackman 4 with Titleist Pro V1x ball I found that it was a lot more consistent than the G410 LST. Reddish Vale Golf Club allowed me to take it to the course and test it.

Ping G425 Lst driver review

The G425’s look and feel are obvious. You know from my previous driver reviews that I prefer a traditional matte black head shape, with simple lines. Ping delivered everything.

They are now more comfortable, their colour has changed from silver-grey and is slate/black. It reminds me of the Batmobile.

It is somewhat reminiscent of the Ping Anser Driver days. This was my favorite driver back in those Ping Tour contracts.

Do not underestimate the joy of playing golf. It’s a Ping, traditional-looking golf club. I feel at ease when looking up and feeling comfortable.

It’s been with me from the range sessions on a cold January night to the first tee of a US Open when you can’t feel your hands due to nerves, and you are breathing so heavily that you barely hear your name being announced. Ping drivers were my constant companion on any professional tour. I was never disappointed by it – the perfect fairway finder.

Ping claims that the ball hits further on short grass, and they believe that this could help you gain more yardage.

You can also hear it sound like a Ping. The noise is loud and high pitched, with a distinctive tone that anyone can identify. In my opinion, it has not changed significantly from previous models. Like they claim that “nothing is like a Mizuno”, so I also believe that nothing sounds like an Ping.

How do you define that phrase?

PING will not release new drivers, so it is likely you won’t experience a series of major overhauls.

PING is in the business of producing some of the best drivers in the business and it isn’t about to attempt to reinvent the wheel.

*PING G425 drivers — FIRST LOOK

With the G425 line-up, the brand has decided to once again stick to its tried and tested engineering practices by effectively building upon the same brilliant designs and technologies that brought its previous G400 and G410 families such universal acclaim.

This time, the CG Shifter is without doubt the most notable piece of tech. This massive, moveable tungsten weight – placed at the extreme rear of the sole of the club – results in an equally extreme low and back CG (centre of gravity) placement.

The Ping G425 Drivers

Ping G425 driver is the most recent iteration in its highly-popular G-series. The Ping G driver was the first to get it all started in 2016. Ping has been improving their clubs’ performance every year since 2016. It offers power, distance and forgiveness at times when it is most needed.

Forgiveness is something we all require after a lengthy par five, with the ‘bigstick’ in our hands. This is a known fact.

In this year’s drivers, you will find one or two differences. Notice that I meant slightly different. Ping showed a lot of restraint in resisting the tendency of the golf industry to use as many buzzwords, gimmicks, and phrases as possible.

Imagine that you’ve played with Ping driver at least once in the last five years. This will allow you to see some of the familiar aspects, along with some minor improvements, that should make Ping drivers a firm favourite in the next golf season.

Ping G425 MAX will be my first focus. This driver promises to prove to be one Ping’s greatest all-around drivers. We’ll then move on to more detailed LST and FFT drivers.

Let’s dive straight in… G425 Max Driver Review The Ping G425 is the basic ‘vanilla’ version in this three-driver series.
