Ping Headquarters is like a gift that keeps on giving.

We had access to the Ping campus behind the scenes, Dave Pauley was able to see the products, as well as Dave and me testing them ourselves. I started my review with the Ping 200 irons.

While we were on the range with Senior Design Engineer, Marty Jertson, we stuck around to review the new Ping Glide 2.0 wedges, which have been a big success with Ping Tour ambassadors in a short period of time.

Jertson explains the Ping Glide2.0 Wedges offer a few improvements to the original Glide Series. These include the inclusion of more grooves and greater tolerances. This provides Ping with more spin than any other Ping wedge.

I can personally attest to these enhanced spin characteristics after hitting the Glide 2.0 wedges, especially on those delicate, little half shots that many golfers avoid like the plague. This club seemed to give “crisper” shots at distances Jertson doesn’t understand, but it did fly further and check better.

Glide 2.0 has a refined four-sole grind (SS, WS. ES. TS) that provides a good interaction with the turf. This should not be surprising, so the “Glide” name. However, I found that almost every shot I made felt easy due to the way the clubs felt in the grass.

Ping Glide 2.0 wedges have my bottom line. I love the unique feel these clubs give to Ping.

Glide 2.0 wedges are a lot more sophisticated and have a better finish.

Ping Glide 2.0 wedges review – The technology

Ping does not do anything new just for the sake of it – they take their engineering seriously and strive to improve every version.

The tour players were asked what they desired and their answer was spin.

Ping also redesigned the grooves for the Glide2.0 wedges, increasing spin rates by 350rpm in full shots and 200rpm when shots are taken around the green.

The sidewalls are steeper to increase groove volume and provide improved performance in full shots. This allows for more spin on chips, pitches, and pitching.
