How the Ratio Eight coffee maker works
Ratio makes automatic pour over coffee. It will bloom the grounds, do the precise pouring and all. Oh, and it’s freaking gorgeous. The one I desired was mine. Problem was, many others wanted one too. The machine was constantly selling out and it took months to finally get my hands on one. Since then, I have been enjoying a Ratio Eight for several weeks. The Eight model is the most expensive, but there are smaller Ratio Six models that have a different appearance. Here’s my honest review.
First off, this machine is absolutely stunning (I know, I said it before but look at the picture! You can get it in five different colors and choose between two different wood finishes. It was also a delight to take it out of its box. Packaging is important to me. After giving the carafe of borosilicate glasses a good rinse, I got to work making my first pot.
The water reservoir! It is easy to refill the water reservoir through the opening in the top.
You can brew your pot by simply filling the reservoir with water through the hole at the top. You can fill it all the way up to the line for 8 cups of coffee or to the halfway mark for 4 cups. You will then need to line the glass cone of the carafe using the included paper filter. The company provides some and suggests that you use the rest. Next you add either 14 or seven tablespoons. Place the carafe and press the “only!” button. button. Simple.
The machine is indicated by three indicators at its bottom: ready, bloom and brew. Automatically, the machine blooms the ground. This is basically adding a little water to the ground in order to make it more saturated. This is your first step to brewing a flavourful beer. Next, the machine will begin the brewing process. This can take anywhere between 4 and 7 minutes. Then, the light will switch to tell you that the coffee is ready. Pour the coffee into a cup. The lid can be used to keep any leftover coffee warm. I did run into an issue for my first couple of pots of course it was totally due to user error, but I think it’s important to point out. My brew basket was overflowing during the brewing process. My DIY coffee beans were way too fine. I was told by the company that the coffee should have the consistency of sugar. “A touch more coarse than a Chemex.” This is what I did. Also, I began to weigh my beans and not just measure less accurately tablespoons.
