Callaway presented the first Epic drivers in 2002 with its revolutionary Jailbreak Technology. Epic is undoubtedly the most well-known piece of modern golf equipment. Jailbreak provided incredible speed and performance gains.
Epic Flash represents another breakthrough in driver technology and looks poised to surpass its predecessors.
I first tested both the Epic Flash and Epic Flash Sub Zero drivers at Callaway’s Ely Performance Centre in Carlsbad, California, at the beginning of December and I’ve been playing with them extensively ever since. Both are more than worthy successors to the excellent Epic and Rogue drivers and deliver on all aspects of performance – so much so, in fact, that I’m pretty sure I’ve found my new gamer for the 2019 season.
Let me explain why.

Epic was used by many golf clubs as a descriptive term.
Callaway began this project last year by releasing their first Epic Driver. It was sold fairly well, but there was not much “Epic” about it.
Epic Flash 2.0 was released in 2015 and has many enhancements that we will be reviewing here.
Callaway has done a fantastic job creating the Epic Flash Sub Zero (and the Epic Flash Sub Zero) so that all golfers have an opportunity to play in the Epic Flash Line.
The Epic Flash Sub Zero was the perfect solution for the Lower Handicap Golfer. It is extremely adjustable, low spin and launch. You can control ball flight with the 12gram sliding weight.
JailBreak Technology can’t be ignored. After all, who doesn’t want JailBreak Technology as part of their Driver?
Jailbreak Technology is simply Callaway’s way of saying that they installed some supportive bars behind the clubface to increase impact load on the face. These bars look similar to jail bars in advertisements and pictures.
Conclusion
Callaway’s Epic Flash Sub Zero was a step up from its predecessor, the Epic Driver.
While the Epic Flash had great vibes and was very well-received, the Epic Flash takes it to the next level.
It is great that the driver was made using artificial intelligence and machine-learning.
This is a great option for players who want a stock driver that gives them straighter flight.
A great player will say that all new Driver’s will go a long ways, but they won’t mind giving up some feel for the feeling.
A bunker will not help if you hit it 300 feet straight. You can hit it 290 with the perfect fade, which you’ve been practicing and feeling, thanks to the excellent feedback from the Driver. This is a much bigger win.
