Falken Wildpeak A/T3W All-Terrain Tire Review

When you think of off-road tires, Falken is probably not the first brand that comes to mind. But the company wants to change that perception – and quickly. One way that they intend to achieve this is with the Falken Wildpeak /T3W.

Falken was only able to enter the off-road truck market with its Wildpeak T/T a few decades ago. Next was the creation of the competition Wildpeak M/T tire. Tony Pellegrino won second place in the King of the Hammers 2014 contest. Falken Wildpeak a/T3W has just been announced as the new all-weather truck vehicle tire. Late last summer we received a set of tires and tested them during the winter. This is a Falken wildpeak AT3W review, after many months of testing.

Let’s take a moment to look at the rating of the Falken Wildpeak At3W by the manufacturer on their tire performance chart.

Dry handling: 4/5

Wet Breaking: 4.5/5

Tread Life 4/5

Ride Comfort: 3.5/5

Discussion Starter * ***FULL DISCLAIMER: FALKEN HAS NOT PAID ME A RED CENT FOR THIS BUT IF THEY WANT TO I’LL GLADLY SHILL FOR THEM*** I finally got to replace my old beat up KO’s that came with the truck when I bought it. I decided to go with the Falken Wildpeak AT3w, P265/75R16 after much thought. The thread below is meant to be an “in-depth review”, as these are newer products.

I went with Wildpeak cuz it claims to be a hybrid between a traditional AT and MT tire, which is perfect for what I want. While I rarely use my truck, the full-size MT tires are unnecessary. I still get sticky things on my journeys. These tires are larger than the AT and have a wider tread. The sidewall of these tires is aggressive, large and muscular. This sidewall really fills in the wheel holes. Falken claims it has the best initial tread depth of any manufacturer in its class, so it could also explain why it appears a little more filled than comparable sized BFG’s.

They’re also very popular as winter tires. This is an important distinction north of the 49. The ‘3w’ stands for winter, wear and weather. Falken also claims a 55,000 mile tread life guarantee which is pretty decent for an AT tire, imo. Sidewalls are also interesting. It might sound a bit crazy, but it could be true. Falken Tire can help you check it out.

While looks can be important, tires should have traction when they meet the road. It literally bucketed rain here today all day, so I got to test the wet part of the name on the drive home. A couple simulated panic stops, and one real one, on brand new, soaking wet blacktop convinced me they weren’t lying. No worries about putting on brakes. The Frontier was stopped by the police without hesitation. Same kinda thing through corners. The BFG’s wouldn’t break free even when I applied heavy acceleration. BFGs would occasionally chirp, but I had never bought them fresh and the BFGs were very much cooked so this isn’t a fair comparison. I’m not really trying to compare apples with apples, as the BFG’s had 10 ply, while the Wildpeaks were only P-metric. However, the Falken’s let my truck rev more and accelerate faster. Perhaps I’ll see an even smaller increase in MPG.

It was not something I had the opportunity to do, however, it did allow me to maneuver them around some nice corners.

Road noise is pretty minimal for a fairly aggressive tire, but it’s also fairly low on my list of concerns. If the girlfriend is not as sensitive to the sound, it’s okay for me to make a slight tire wobble.

Overall, with like maybe 25km on them so far, I’m impressed. I feel these tires are going to be great for a phenomenal price. Shoutout to Kelowna Lexus! I have to drag myself out of bed Saturday so I can go into the forest and test their performance in slushy snow, wet rock and half frozen mud. They’ll be getting more snow and interesting terrain as I go. I’ll keep the thread updated.

Ah yes, these Falken’s were great. I bought my first AT3W’s almost two years ago and installed them in Jan 16.’ They had just come out. In fact they were produced 4615. These AT3Ws were not available at that time and I didn’t have any info.

Well now I do have feedback here is the biggest compliment I could hand out to Falken I just paid $$$ to put my 2nd set of AT3W’s on about a week ago because they do their job and do it well plus once again for TOTDP with the rebate which more than paid for M/B with road hazard(I couldn’t buy it first time :sad I really just couldn’t match it in an A/T unless I wanted something I felt was a lot lesser quality or go to a highway tire. Although they did not reach the full 55k mark (40k), it was still a great deal. The AT3W’s offer a lot of value, longevity and good manners that are hard to match. This time around I put LT’s on yes they’re a little stiffer but still really quiet on road and the first set of P’s have proved their worthiness to me countless times in rain an on the mud back roads out here in NE Texas we really don’t get snow.

I replaced the first set early because I figured with what I was saving it just made sense I needed 1 new tire due to a hole that I could stick my pinky in that’s what road hazard’s for lol it wasn’t tires fault but also had another rim that needed new valve and another that had tpms just quit so with winter coming I put them on.

This is a complete review of the Falken Wildpeak All-Terrain Tires at 3W on the Tacoma 2Nd-Gen Prerunner.

It can be confusing to choose the right tire. My goal was to find a tire that looked aggressive, would be comfortable during daily commutes, and could handle the rough terrain that my tires have been subject to. This is why I went with all-terrain tires. It’s what I see as the middle ground between H/T and M/T.
