Let’s go to the bottom of the matter: Was PING able to maintain adjustability on the G410 Plus, while simultaneously increasing forgiveness? Yes. It delivers.

In testing the G425 Max head to head with my G410 Plus, the most obvious difference was the superior forgiveness of the G425 Max. With the G425 Max driver, mishits were always a bit faster and had more reliable launch numbers. The course is shorter, so you have less time between your best swings. Comparing the G425 Max with the rest of market, it’s clear that there isn’t anything quite like the G425 Max in terms of forgiveness. If you want maximum consistency off the tee, I would suggest bagging the G425 Max driver.

This is impressive because the G425 Max achieves increased forgiveness and adjustability without losing any of its adaptability. The adapter used in this driver is the same as the one before it. This means that you can use the exact eight shaft positions. The loft can be adjusted as high or low as 1.5 degrees. The back weighs 26 grams and can be placed in either Fade, Neutral,, or Draw. Each position affects the ball flight, as well the position and size of the sweet spot.

PING, a world leader in custom-fitting offers many stock shafts with the G425 Max driver. These three models include the ALTA CB55 Sand, PING Tour, or Alta Distanza. PING offers two hot models for players who want a high-end shaft: the Aldila Rogue White 130 MSI (review HERE) and the Mitsubishi TENSEI Av Orange (55.5 and 65 grams).

The Test

In October, I visited Ping to have the shaft length and type fitted to me for my driver. I wasn’t allowed to hit the G425 (it was top secret back then) but I did trial the G410 heads and found the LST 9 degree was best suited to me, with a Ping Tour 65 shaft. Therefore, the G425 Driver was an LST model. With the identical shaft it gave me the club most suited to my needs so that I could truly evaluate.

I compared the driver with the G410 LST inside LSH Auto, Mercedes Benz Stockport, using Trackman 4 as well as Titleist Pro-V1x balls. Reddish Vale Golf Club hosted me to play a couple of rounds and to decide if the driver was good enough to be considered for my bag.

Review of the Ping G425 Lst-Driver

Looks and Feel Straight away the look of the G425 driver ticks all of my boxes! My driver reviews will tell you that I favor a small, rectangular, and matte black look. Ping has delivered all of this.

The turbulators have become softer and the colour has gone from a metallic-grey to slate/black. This is quite classy and reminded me of the Batmobile.

It’s a bit of a throwback to the old Ping Anser Driver days, which was my favourite driver to play back when I was a Ping contracted Tour player.

Never underestimate the feeling of comfort in golf, it’s a place where we all play our best. When I am looking at the Ping clubs, it looks just like a Ping golf club. It gives me comfort.

I have had it with me since the beginning of January, from when I was at the range on cold winter nights to the moment that the US Open began. When you don’t know what to do and can’t feel your hands because nerves control you, you find yourself unable to hear anyone announce your name. Ping driver was my companion for every professional drive that I did on tour. It was the best fairway finder and it didn’t let me down.

Ping says that it is easier to hit the ball on the grass than when it hits the ground. This technology helps them focus their R&D efforts.

The sound is also reminiscent of a Ping. It’s high-pitched and loud. This makes it a familiar noise to everyone. I think it hasn’t changed significantly from previous models. As they said, “nothing feels like Mizuno”, I’d also say that it doesn’t sound like a Peing.

It would be easy to go on and on about the quality of these new range Ping G425Drivers. The truth is that the verdict on this driver range is quite straightforward. You get a driver that is exceptional in performance, and has fitting options to suit every player at an excellent price.
