Roomba i3+ (iRobot) is the third Roomba i7+ with a self cleaning dustbin. The i3+, like its predecessors comes equipped with a Clean Base Automatic dirt disposal dock. This charges the robot, and stores around 60 days of debris in the AllergenLock bag. It all depends on how frequently you vacuum, and how filthy your home. Once the robot is done cleaning you will hear Clean Base’s blower motor kick in while it collects dustbin contents and puts them into the bag.
The dust is collected from the trash can through an evacuation tube on the Clean Base, before it’s deposited into the bag. You get a Clean Base bag already installed. You can purchase three packs for $19.99 when you run out. iRobot says the bag is constructed of four layers of allergen-blocking material, which allows it to trap 99 percent of pollen and mold.
Clean Base has a tradeoff. It is quite an eye-sore. It measures 19 by 12.2 inches by 15.1 (HWD) and is much bigger than the standard robot vacuum docking stations. While the overall dimensions of the i3+ are 13.26inches in diameter, they measure 3.63inches high. That’s a lot taller than some other models. Eufy has a couple of short, solid models that will fit under low furniture. But, they can’t empty the dustbin.

There is also a Light Ring Indiator around the Clean/Power buttons. The indicator pulses white when charging and glows blue when searching for the cleaner base.
While some robot vacuums have shiny mirrored covers that show dust, the i3+ has a gray matte/textured finish on top that looks almost like fabric and minimizes fingerprints. The i3+ also features a RCON (Room Confinement) sensor that detects its Clean Base and a front-facing Light Touch sensor to identify walls or other obstacles.
The bottom has two large multi-surface brush heads that can work in tandem and one edge-sweeping bristle. To prevent it from falling down steps, it has four Cliff sensors and one edge-sweeping brush. The Floor Tracking sensor will help the dustbin clean in neat rows as opposed to a bumper-car-like manner. The high-efficiency filter in the dustbin captures 99.5 percent of all allergens including mold, pollen, dust mites and those from cat or dog. There is one filter included in the kit, with an extra available inside.
iRobot advises that before you send your robot to clean it, you remove all cables, cords and toys. That way, the i3+ won’t become tangled up or get stuck on any of them. To allow it to tour your home, the company recommends opening all doors inside.

While there are many companies that make cleaning robots, iRobot has been a pioneer in this market since its founding. Roomba launched its original robot in 2002. Over the years, it has seen many improvements in both core vacuuming capabilities and features like smart connectivity. One of iRobot’s newest products in India takes automation of the cleaning process a step further, with automatic dirt disposal.
Prices start at Rs. At Rs.69,900, India’s iRobot Roomba i3+ has the Clean Base charging station. This doubles as a dirt collector for the robot. The vacuum container on the robot won’t need emptying every few days as with other cleaning robots. What does it all mean? Is the iRobot Roomba i3+ well worth its price? Irobot Roomba I3+: What is it?
IRobot offers both mopping and vacuuming on most of the cleaners that have come to my attention in recent months. The Braava range, with products such as the iRobot Braava Jet M6 exclusively mop, while the Roomba range is meant only for vacuum cleaning. The iRobot Roomba i3+ robot vacuum cleaner is not capable of mopping.
A brush at the left side of the iRobot Roomba i3+ cleans the robot of dirt and debris. For movement, there are two mechanised wheels at the sides, and a third free wheel at the front for balance. You can find the dust container for your vacuum cleaner at the back. It is easy to remove if necessary. The charging contacts are located at the front. Unlike many cleaning robots, the iRobot Roomba i3+ has no lid. There are two rubber vacuum rolls on the device that can be taken off to clean it.
Instead, the device has a textured finish at the top, with three buttons – Power / Clean, Home, and Spot Clean. It has a big bumper on the front to protect it from accidental bumps and a Reactive Sensor module, which guides the device around its home to find the way back to the docking location.
Clean Base docking station, for the iRobot Roomba i3+ comes with the box. Although most docking stations have a small footprint that can slide underneath a couch or be hidden in a corner of a room, the Clean Base dock weighs in at a considerable height and will make it difficult for the robot’s reach. Clean Base comes with a top lid that lets you reach the dirt bag and bottom which contains the charging contacts.
The Clean Base’s unique ability to collect dirt from the Roomba, and then deposit it in its own bag is what makes it stand out. The robot will automatically empty the dust container from the bag. This is a great convenience, however, I’ll discuss some of the caveats later. The Rs. 49,900 Roomba from iRobot. This robot is identical to the Clean Base model, but has a simple charging dock.
With two motorized wheels for movement and a single sweeping bristle, the iRobot Roomba i3+ is easy to use.
Irobot Roomba I3+ Navigation & Mapping
The navigation system used by the iRobot Roomba i3+ was quite unlike what I’ve seen with other mid-range and top-end products. The Reactive Sensor navigation is a little better than basic camera-based navigation devices like the ILife A9s Trifo Max Pet. However, it’s not as effective as the laser-based laser navigation on devices like the 360 S7. While the Roomba i3+ moved about my home quite a lot, sometimes bumping into furniture quite aggressively. Robots seem to randomly choose which direction they want, instead of following any specific system or pattern. There’s also no scope for giving the robot specific instructions such as which rooms to clean and what order to follow. You can’t even even remote control the device to guide it manually.
There were some occasions when the device was stuck. I had to lift it out and remove any obstructions such as a dryer rack. Despite some navigation issues and maps, my experience with the iRobot Roomba i3+ was very good. It always returned to its docking station with no problems.
Irobot Roomba I3+ App
iRobot Braava Jet M6 , the Roomba i3+ is supported by the iRobot Home app, which is available for iOS Android devices. Although the app can be argued to be simpler than other manufacturer’s apps, it is not as customizable and does not allow for the control of specific Roomba i3+ features.
This app displays the status of the robot, as well as its current battery levels. When the robot is docked to the Clean Base, you can choose to empty it. You can scroll down and choose to either start a cleaning job right away or to create a task with a limit on the amount of time the robot must clean up before it returns to its dock. This default task does not have a limit and can be run until either the robot decides you’re satisfied with your home or your battery is low.
This app is extremely simple, easy-to-use and provides basic statistics about the robot’s performance. While the map highlights where the robot picked up more dirt, and increases its power accordingly, this information is only for the user. The app allows you to make cleaning plans, change the UI language, Wi Fi connectivity, clean and Clean Base preferences, as well.
Roomba’s i3+ can chart its own course, control its suction power and performs its task entirely without input. One of the things the app lets you do is to initiate a cleaning job anywhere on the planet, providing that it is connected with your Wi-Fi network and you have an Internet connection.
Verdict
The iRobot Roomba i3+ cleaning robot is quite expensive, considering it can only vacuum, while other similarly-priced or cheaper options can mop and vacuum. At Rs. At Rs. 69900, it is a very expensive choice. Add to that the additional cost for a mopping robot like the iRobot Braavajet M6 as well as all of the necessary consumables. The device does a great job and it is easy to clean its dustbin.
This robot vacuum cleaner is one of the most user-friendly. Nevertheless, this convenience is accompanied by expensive consumables and accessories that will need to be replaced frequently, increasing the cost of the iRobot Roomba i3+. It is worth looking at the apps, lack of control and noisy operation as factors to consider before buying this robot vacuum cleaner.
However, this is an effective, thorough, and surprisingly intuitive cleaning robot, achieving what it sets out to do with an impressive level of efficiency. The iRobot Roomba i3+, despite its price, many quirks, lack of smarts is a highly effective cleaning robot.

Irobot Roomba I3+ Review – Is It Good At Locating Its Way Around?
Roomba i3+ uses laser scanning, but it doesn’t have the ability to create a map. This makes it very inept at finding its way. The robot does it methodically though. It cleans in straight lines and turns when it hits furniture or walls. And although the bumper on the i3+ is made of hard plastic, it’s mounted on a spring mechanism, so the robot can detect an impact before it does any damage. To prevent it from getting stuck, the robot also has internal sensors such as gyroscopes.
Although I did not notice the robot attacking wooden chairs legs, it was very aggressive. However, if you have delicate furniture or expensive items to protect your home from harm, you may want to invest in a better collision detection system. You can also see it doubling back, bumping into legs and ignoring basic obstacles. But it can remember its location so it will not clean the same places twice. It can resume cleaning where it left off if its battery is depleted halfway through the clean.
Roomba i3+ does not store a map, like robots with sophisticated navigation systems such as Ecovacs Deebot N8+ Dyson 360 Heurist. You can’t designate areas that are prohibited or instruct the vacuum to travel to certain rooms to receive special treatment.
This robot’s ability to re-create its own map makes it less efficient. It took the robot 1hr and 15 minutes to cover 57m2 of my household floor. Ecovacs Deebot N8+ is faster than the Dyson 360 Heurist, as it stores a map. Although it is quicker than Dyson 360 Heurist which takes approximately 21 minutes, the Ecovacs DeebotN8+ can clean an area that’s about half the size.
Review of the iRobot Roomba i3+: Does it work well?
Unlike most manufacturers, iRobot doesn’t quote the suction power of the Roomba i3+, only stating that it’s ten times more powerful than the Roomba 600, whatever that means. While it’s possible that the vacuum’s power may be lower than other models, and iRobot would like to make it seem less obvious, it’s still ten times more powerful than any Roomba 600.
Roomba cannot be used to clean up spillages, however it has spot-cleaning capabilities that are accessible with just a push of a button. The robot can be picked up and placed in the middle of the mess. You will see the robot circle the area and then return to its beginning point.
Is Roomba I3 really worth it?
The Roomba i3 vacuum is the best choice for budget-minded people who don’t want to care about keeping out areas or specific cleaning needs. When it comes to performance on carpet and hard surfaces, the Roomba i3 vacuums just as well as the Roomba i7.
Which is better, I3 or I7 roomba?
The iRobot Roomba i7+ performs better than its predecessor, the iRobot Roomba i3+. The i7+ has a better performance on low and high-pile carpets and clears more pet hair from bare surfaces. The i3+, on the other hand is better at removing bulky items like cereal and food from floors.
Does Roomba I3 Have Room Mapping?
The i3 doesn’t have smart mapping. This means that it cannot be used to clean certain areas of your house. Smart mapping is an option on the higher-tier models (i7 and S9). However, the i3 has a Clean Map feature that tells you exactly where your device is cleaned. Clean Maps can be found within the “history” section of the iRobot Home mobile app.
