Performance

At the same loft, with the exact shaft, I was able test both the SIM MAX and SIM MAX drivers. It was easy to compare the different models. Most notable was the more expensive launch. While the SIM MAX was launched at the lower end of my usual window, it launched low. The SIM MAX launched at the mid end of my normal window, while the SIM MAX was low spin.

SIM MAX has a greater forgiveness rate than SIM. I found the SIM MAX to have slightly greater ball speed, and more accurate. Subjectively, the SIM MAX helped me get better results for my bad swings.

Progressive Face Heights (a unique feature of the SIM driver fleet) is another. TaylorMade studied the relationship between impact location and handicap to design each driver with the appropriate sized faces. SIM drivers are the smallest and most suitable for top players. SIM Max D features a face that is 8 percent larger than the SIM Max, and 18% more. This is why players must consider the visual preference of their drivers when choosing between these two clubs.

I don’t think the SIM MAX represents a significant upgrade from last year’s M6. Each driver is very capable – patient and forgiving with no unnecessary bells and whistles. But, if gaming on the M6 then there’s nothing that the SIM can do to improve your experience.

Taylormade Sim Max Driver Review: Cutting-Edge Forgiveness

Paul Club Reviews, Golf Product Reviews and Comments No Comments. This review covers the TaylorMade SIM Max driver.

SIM Max features the same advanced technologies as the SIM driver family, including Inertia Generator and an asymmetric sole. But with a larger club face and deeper center of gravity, it delivers more MOI and forgiveness and is aimed at higher handicaps.

Just how much more forgiving is the SIM Max than the SIM? How does it compare with the M6? Is it worth putting in the bag?

Taylormade Sim Driver Verdict

I wouldn’t have thought that the SIM would make the best model, but it was a great choice. Sometimes the spin was too slow for me to swing at a lower speed.

The SIM Max was the only thing that really amazed me. I never caught one. The distance I was able to see from the SIM Max never fell, even though it had a very high spin rate (over 3000 RPM).

I never expected the middle driver of this range to perform so well without having to alter settings to lower spin. The Inertia Generator in the back added flight to the ball, but did not affect spin.

It was difficult, however to notice an improvement in swing speed because of the geometry and angle at which Inertia Generators are placed. The inertia generator’s 20-degree angle is something I still have doubts about. While it can be demonstrated in TaylorMade labs or by DJs swinging at the club in the slots, I am not convinced that we will all enjoy the benefits.

Why This Club is My Choice

This club was on sale at the right time and Taylormade is a great brand. I bought it. I already had their wedges in my bag and I was super pleased, so I hoped that the driver would follow suit!

While I had considered purchasing the Callaway Mavrik I ended up choosing the SIM Max due its low price and many good reviews. Because the Mavrik doesn’t provide as many distances, as a teenage girl, I had to have something that could keep me satiated for as long as possible.

Verdict

While the SIM’s name may not sound quite as powerful and memorable as its predecessor, M-Series, we have to admit that it has a beautiful appearance.

The SIM Family’s new design is absolutely amazing. And, like we stated in the video review: it grows on your body as you use and use it.

It’s by far our favorite driver at address. Contrasting with the carbon crown, the chalk-white top line looks great and is a wonderful contrast.

TaylorMade’s drivers are always top of the line in terms of performance.

The slightly angled Inertia Generator did seem to increase my club speed slightly and both the SIM and SIM Max produced very promising numbers.

SIM driver was low in spin, producing a sharp ball flight. SIM Max produced more spin and had higher ball flights.

While the SIM Max proved to be more forgiving than the other, I found it my favorite because it gave me the same distance that a larger stick could.

Cons:

No dramatic improvements over previous models

Not too much adjustment

Released in 2020, the SIM and SIM Max drivers are the next step on the path forged by the M drivers of previous years. The speed injected twist face technology remains, as does the MOI sole weight – only it’s been implemented slightly differently this time. Although the SIM Max will focus this review, there are many SIMs available, including one with a smaller face, and more adjustability.

This driver’s first impression was undoubtedly its stunning looks. This driver’s head is a lot more modernized than its predecessor. Additionally, it features a unique combination of dark and metallic colors that create an attractive design.

TaylorMade claims that the driver offers more performance and has optimized its sole weight for a higher MOI. According to the idea, the swing should be aerodynamically more efficient and therefore faster. It has also been designed to offer slightly higher launch conditions than previous models.

TaylorMade felt very satisfied with the results of the M drivers. Therefore, no major changes to the speed injected technology have been made. It rockets from the head, as we have come to expect. The special design was created to aid you when the ball hits parts of your face that cause problems. It also sounds fantastic.

TaylorMade’s ability to improve ball speed over time is undisputed. However, it seems that the company now faces diminishing returns. It is an amazing driver. The sole weight change seems to make a difference. Most players will not feel any performance improvements.

Last Thoughts

TaylorMade continues to lead the way in technology for golf clubs. SIM Max has a remarkable driver with its light MOI and proven speed-injection face. High-level players, who feel they can benefit from an extra MOI and more clubhead speed, may have great success with the club.

The fun can be enjoyed by those with higher handicaps. Although the clubface is optimized for speed it has been designed to be forgiving. The carefully placed CG can help you get just the right amount.

If you currently play with the TaylorMade M5 or M6, don’t expect a huge transformation to occur when you pick up the SIM Max – however, you can rest assured that this driver is a quality piece of kit.

The holy grail in driver design is to create a driver that’s precise, forgiving and accurate.

TaylorMade SIM Drivers – First Look!

TaylorMade needed to modify the shape of all its drivers in order to achieve this.

One of the biggest stories is improved aerodynamics. SIM stands for Shape In Motion.

Inertia Generator placed on the sole loads a significant amount of weight in the clubhead low and back to allow for easy launch and forgiveness. TaylorMade decided then to rotate the design feature, which reduces drag and increases clubhead speed.

You can expect excellent all-round performance from these drivers. But, even before one hit, you will be in love.

Conclusion. The TaylorMade SIM MAX game-improvement driver is the best a high-handicapper can get. Many golfers find it provides the same, or greater distance as the SIM. You’ll also find it more flexible than the M6 from the previous season. Aug 10, 2020
