TP-Link brought a few new Wi-Fi 6 mesh router systems to Las Vegas this year. These are the details on each of them.

The TP Link Deco X20 WiFi 6 mesh router, which costs less than $200 per piece, goes on sale March 1.

This is part CES. Here, our editors will present the most recent news and the hottest gadgets at CES 2022.

TP-Link has left us waiting for more details at CES 2020. The new Deco Mesh Router Systems will support Wi-Fi 6 with Wi-Fi 6 support. The TP-Link Deco X90 is the fastest and most expensive of the three, and it costs $450 to buy a 2-pack. This tri-band mesh router has speeds up to 574 megabits per sec on the 2.4GHz and 1,201Mbps on 5GHz bands, and 4,804Mbps in a second 5GHz Band. It uses a dedicated backhaul link between the main router, satellite devices and router to transmit a fast Wi-Fi signal throughout your house.

Deco X90 – the fastest Deco System, is available for purchase in April.

The dual-band TP Link Deco X60 (the first of two new systems) is available. Although it eliminates the backhaul, the system still provides top speeds of 2,402Mbps for the 5GHz channel. That one brings the cost down to $270 for a two-pack.

Wi-Fi This is a Wi-Fi 6 mesh system, available in one, two or three packs. It is a dual-band system: AX1800 (2×2 1201Mbps 5GHz, 2×2 574Mbps).

Although Wi-Fi 6 routers and mesh systems started out at almost ridiculous prices, recent months have seen prices fall, particularly with the launch of mode budget systems such as this, the TP-Link Deco X20.

Double-band Wi-Fi reduces the cost. However, TP-Link is one of the best mesh systems I have ever used. Its performance is excellent, making it a top-quality budget mesh system.

What is the Tp-Link DecoX20 Whole-Home Mesh Wi Fi 6 System?

This review was done during another lockdown. Since large portions of the workforce work from home, and many schools have closed, Wi-Fi coverage is critical. Your Zoom and Teams meetings freezing while your kids try to finish their schoolwork online is a difficult thing.

There are many options for solving problems with Wi-Fi. TP Link, a Chinese Networking company is providing our review product today. From its Deco range of Mesh Wi-Fi systems, these are similar to offerings provided by BT and Netgear and aim to cover the whole home with a solid Wi-Fi connection. It’s far better than what you get from Wi-Fi boosters and a single router.

Tp-Link Deco X20 Mesh Wi-Fi System Review

Available on PS280 for a triple-pack, the TP Link Deco X20 Mesh Wi Fi system (triple package) will give you everything you need in order to eradicate Wi Fi blackspots at standard 3-5 beds houses. The latest Wi-Fi 6 standard is included. It’s seamless roaming and extremely simple to setup. There are also a well-designed App and a set of intrusion and anti-virus protections through TP-Link Homecare. You do not get much for the money.

The X20 units themselves have a pleasing design and are reasonably compact. During our tests we had no major issues such as losing connection and our home which previously had some poor-quality Wi-Fi areas was transformed into a Wi-Fi palace with excellent speeds in all our test locations. The only problem with the X20 system is its inability to provide wireless backhaul.

There are many mesh WiFi systems available. Netgear has the RBK353 WiFi 6 system for about the same price, although it comes with an anti-virus. The TP-Link Deco X20 system will banish Wi-Fi deadzones indefinitely.

NOTE: Just after this review was finished, a certain website belonging to Mr. Bezos now has the triple pack available for just PS235, which is superb value for money.

Cons

– Expensive

– Modest WiFi Speed

– The inputs/connectivity of the speaker are limited

TP-Link isn’t the first company that combines a Wi-Fi router with a smart speaker. Netgear attempted it back in 2019. However, this didn’t last very long so there is no way to know if the approach is more than a gimmick.

Deco Voice X20’s primary function is to connect your entire house to Wi-Fi. Although it is very conventional in design, the Deco VoiceX20 offers dual-band WiFi 6, or 802.11ax with a maximum speed at 1,800Mbps. This is not fast enough for Wi-Fi 6, but the Deco Voice X20 will still work well for streaming video, music and a bit of gaming.

The Deco Voice X20 website from TP Link can be confusing. There is only one model of Deco Voice X20 on its main page. However, clicking the ‘Buy’ button will take you to TP-Link’s online store where pricing actually starts at PS279.99/US $340.00/AU $544.96 for a pack that contains two Deco Voice X20 routers, which is the model that we review here.

The 2-pack is suitable for homes with up to 4000 square feet and four bedrooms. However, there are also 3-pack and 4-pack options for homes with larger spaces. There are even packages that combine Deco Voice routers and smart light, security camera, or other devices that you can control with voice commands.

Tech Review: Mainstream Users Will Love the Tplink Deco X20 mesh router

Deco X20 proves that Wi-Fi 6 doesn’t require you to spend a fortune to enjoy its low cost, excellent range performance and ease-of-use. PHOTO: TP-LINK The TP-Link Deco X20 Whole Home Mesh Wi-Fi System (available on Lazada Shopee ) is one of the first entry-level Wi-Fi 6 routers in the market.

Set of 3 identical units at $339, the X20 raises the cost of routers compatible with the new wireless standard – faster speeds for Wi-Fi 6-compatible devices – back to mainstream pricing.

A mesh Wi Fi system makes it possible to connect multiple units together in order for greater wireless coverage. One set of three X20 unit can cover up to 5800 sq ft (538sq m)

The Linksys Velop 5300 mesh router, which I reviewed recently for the X20 was far less expensive than the X20 at $569 per unit.

As you can see, the Velop higher-end has more features. For example, three wireless band options vs. the dual-band X20. The Velop also offers twice as many Ethernet port choices.

The X20 also lacks a dedicated wireless backhaul used for communication between each node. Having such a feature would improve wireless speeds for clients that are connected to nodes at the edge of a mesh network.

There is an option of using Ethernet as a wired backhaul to link up all the X20 nodes, though that requires your home to have the necessary cabling in place.

Tp-Link Deco X20 Review: Connectivity

Sadly, there’s no way to make your devices be smart about this: they’ll always try to connect to the strongest signal source, so all you can do is try putting your nodes in different locations and see what works best. There are some downs in the list. The X20 units are cute and compact, but this means there’s only space for two network ports on each, and one of these will be taken up on the router unit by your modem connection.

Attaching an Ethernet switch outside your router to gain more ports is easy and not too expensive. TP-Link can’t seem to get any USB sockets in, or a buttons for WPS. But you can make password-free connections by using a soft switch in their management interface. This is the strangest system that was tested this month. There’s a simple console that shows the network’s status, but you can change or check settings using the Tether mobile application.

This app works well, and provides everything that you require. The only thing missing is the band-splitting feature. Access to TP-Link HomeCare, which offers all-round security and QoS, as well as parental-control, is also possible through the app. We love the fact that the security module can block any suspicious connections, both internal and external, which makes it very difficult for a virus or other malware to spread through your home network. The QoS controls allow users to easily adjust the priority given to different traffic types.

Also, the parental controls offer a range of time-limiting and filtering features. If you focus solely on performance figures you might consider the TP-Link Deco X20 an also-ran, but it has plenty of other merits that set it apart from the crowd.

The Take

Since my last review of the TP Link mesh routers, one thing has changed: The competitive landscape. The price of comparable mesh systems by Amazon, Google, and Amazon have declined, so it is possible that TP-Link might have raised some prices. TP Link still offers mesh systems at a lower price than others but it isn’t quite as big as the one before.

If you want Wi-Fi 6, though, prices start at about $250 for a two or three node mesh. This price is much lower than that of most competitors.

Are you ready for Wi-Fi 6 now? If you haven’t already upgraded to Wi Fi 6 systems, it may not be possible. However, you might be interested in more Wi Fi 6 systems, so why wait?

I avoid devices and services that combine my data and sell it. TP Link doesn’t collect any user data and does not resell it. Even though prices are a little higher than they were, I still like the TP Link company model.

Looking for a cost-effective Wi-Fi 6 mesh? Consider the TP-Link Deco X20 or X60 systems. They have been very helpful for me.
