You’Ve Got That Gaming Feeling

The GL65 shares its basic design with MSI’s pricier GE65 Raider . These two have identical dimensions of 1.1 by 14.2 by 9.8 inches. This notebook, although it’s a little thicker than others, isn’t too bulky. You can find the display bezels as thin and light as possible.

The GL65 looks a lot like a gaming console with the red-andblack color scheme. Red is mainly due to the keyboard backlighting. There are a few highlights on the chassis. Despite the colors, the overall look of the machine is conventional, though the MSI gaming logo on the lid (which is passively backlit by the screen) means it won’t be mistaken for anything but a gaming laptop.

This laptop’s aluminum lid covers and backing are nice features. Both the Asus TUF Gaming FX505 (dell G3 15) and Dell G3 15 make use exclusively of plastic. MSI has kept the bulk of its other components plastic-free, thus keeping it svelte. The MSI review model I tested weighed in at just 4.6 pounds. However, MSI specifications state that it weighs 5.1.

Redefine it

This GL65 unit is cost-effective because it uses red keyboard backlighting. MSI has upscale models available in the GL65 line that have per-key RGB lighting. The keyboard is familiar if you’ve used an MSI gaming notebook recently. It feels rubbery, but it is pleasant. There’s enough travel to allow for communication feedback. Layout-wise the left-side Windows keys are missing. But the MSI Dragon Center utility, which is preinstalled, lets you switch their functionality by using the Fn button to the right. A dedicated button at the top right of the keyboard launches Dragon Center; next to it is the power button and another to engage maximum fan speed (which I never needed; see the cooling section later in this review).

Speaking of software, note that the GL65’s keyboard, while it’s designed in conjunction with peripheral maker SteelSeries, isn’t compatible with the SteelSeries Engine app like the keyboards of some higher-end MSI notebooks. As such, it doesn’t support remapping keys or saving profiles.

The GL65’s touchpad can be found left of the center on the palm rest. It is large enough. This is only a minor flaw. It makes clicking too loud for my liking.

The GL65 doesn’t have any built-in biometric devices, which is a flaw that it shares with most gaming notebooks. It is a problem that I highlight in laptop reviews. Non-gaming laptops are often equipped with a face recognition webcam and fingerprint reader. At least the GL65 measures up when it comes to its 720p webcam, which offers a reasonable picture in the right light. Unfortunately, the MSI’s speakers don’t sound very loud. While they have enough volume, their tinny sound and lack of bass will have you reaching for your headphones.

The Long-Term Msi Leopard Review: Bang For The Buck

Published 7:00 am IST MSI has now launched the GL65 series to replace its GL63 line.

The GL65 has a 16% reduction in size compared to its predecessor. This is perhaps the best upgrade. Rest everything, however, is just about the same.

While the MSI Stealth series takes care of thin and light gaming laptops, the GL series sacrifices a bit of thinness to pack in more gaming power. It is priced at a medium budget and includes some excellent hardware. The first model was released in 2019 and has been updated with a variety of configurations.

Reviews of Msi LG65 2020 – Is it Worth the Extra Boosted Rsx 2060?

JT The MSI GL65 is the first gaming laptop I’ve tested with Nvidia’s new higher wattage 2060 graphics, let’s check it out in this detailed review and find out if it’s something you should consider.

Although I am using the 10SEK configuration for gaming, there are other options.

The lid comes in a matte-black metal and the interior is identical. While the bottom is made of plastic, it is matte black.

Overall quality felt fairly good. No sharp edges were found anywhere. The weight is listed at 2.3kg, though mine was closer to 2.2kg. Add in the 230w Power Brick and Charger Cables, it adds up to almost 3kg (or 7 lb).

For a gaming laptop that has this hardware, the GL65 may be a bit thicker than others. However, its width and depth is reasonable for a 15-inch machine. The smaller dimensions allow for 7.5mm side screen bezels.

The 15.6″ 1080p 144Hz screen has a matte finish and uses Optimus which cannot be disabled, there’s no G-Sync.

MSI Dragon Center software is by default enabled to display OverDrive.
