Performance

Let’s jump right into the important question. Was PING capable of maintaining the G410 Plus’s adaptability, but also increasing the forgiveness. Yes. This is what the G425 Max does.

Comparing the G425 Max with my G410 Plus I noticed a clear difference. The G425 Max has more forgiveness. The G425 Max driver was consistently faster, with a more solid launch and spin number. It means there are fewer distances between your best swings as well as all other shots on the course. In comparing the G425 Max to the rest of the market, I don’t think there’s anything that’s quite on its level for forgiveness. If you want maximum consistency off the tee, I would suggest bagging the G425 Max driver.

What’s impressive is that the G425 Max achieves this boosted forgiveness without giving up adjustability. This driver uses the same adapter as the previous one, so you can use all the same shafts in the same eight positions. Loft can also be adjusted upwards or downwards by up to 1.5 degrees. The back weighs 26 grams and can be placed in either Fade, Neutral,, or Draw. Every position can have a significant impact on ball flight and position of sweet spot.

PING has a wide range of stock shafts available in its G425 Max driver. They are regarded as a market leader for custom fitting. These three proprietary models include the ALTA CB55Slate and PING Tour. PING provides hot aftermarket shafts for the driver of players, including the Aldila Rogue White130 MSI [reviewHERE] and Mitsubishi TenSEI-AV Orange (55 and 65 gram).

The Test

Ping allowed me to go to October and get fitted for the best shaft length. While I couldn’t hit the G425 as it was classified back then, I did try the G410 heads. The LST9 degree seemed to be the most suitable for me. The LST driver model was what I got when I received my G425 Driver. It had the exact shaft so I could evaluate the club.

The driver was compared to the G410 LST at LSH Auto and Mercedes Benz Stockport with Trackman 4 balls. Reddish Vale Golf Club invited me to give it a try during several rounds.

Ping G425 lst Driver Review

The G425 looks and feels great! If you’ve read any of my driver reviews before then you’ll know that I love a matte black, traditional, compact head shape with a simple design. Ping is a great example of all these things.

The turbulators feel softer. They have gone from being silver-grey or slate/black. I find this very classy.

It’s kind of like a throwback back to when Ping Anser Driver was still in use.

Don’t underestimate the comfort of golf. It is a game where everyone can play their best. I have comfort when holding and looking down on a Ping club, that looks like a traditional Ping golf club.

The Ping driver has been my companion from range sessions in January to first Tee of the US Open. It is there when your nerves kick in and you feel like you’re unable to move your hands, or you’re so weak that your name can barely be heard. Ping drivers were always in my hands on every tour drive. The ultimate fairwayfinder, it was always there for me.

Ping states that it’s easier to hit the ball farther when it touches the short grass. That is why they have their R&D focus on technology. However, as someone who believes themselves to be an accurate driver of the ball it might also make it possible for me gain a few extra yards.

You can also hear it sound like a Ping. The noise is loud and high pitched, with a distinctive tone that anyone can identify. I don’t think this has changed much from the previous driver models. It’s true that it’s impossible to feel like a Mizuno, but I think that the Ping doesn’t even sound like one.

You’ll find one or two things a little different in this year’s drivers. Notice that I didn’t say “a lot different”. Ping has demonstrated a fair degree of restraint against the tendency for the golf industry not to adopt as many buzzwords/gimmicks.
