Performance

With the SIM MAX, the SIM driver could be tested at the identical loft. It was easy to compare the different models. Most notable was the more expensive launch. The launch speed of the SIM MAX and SIM MAX were both low. Similarly, the SIM is low spin, the SIM MAX is mid spin.

SIM MAX has a greater forgiveness rate than SIM. On average, the SIM MAX gave me slightly better ball speed and better accuracy. Subjectively, I found that the SIM MAX produced better results than my bad swings.

Progressive Face Heights is a new feature for the SIM driver group. TaylorMade researched the impact of handicaps on drivers and developed three models with the appropriate sized faces. SIM Driver is for best players. SIM Max D faces are 18% wider than SIM Max D, but the SIM Max Max’s face is 8% bigger. The difference between the SIM Max and SIM Max D faces is evident, so players need to consider their visual preference before choosing one of these clubs.

The SIM MAX’s upgrade to the M6 last year is not substantial. (M6 driver review here). While both drivers are excellent, they’re very forgiving and don’t have a lot of bells-and-whistles. If you want to play the M6 on your smartphone, the SIM is not necessary.

Taylormade Sim Driver Verdict

Before I started this review I would have said the SIM would be the model for me but, dare I say it, it did do what it said too well. For my slower swing speed, the spin would sometimes fall too far.

What impressed me most about the SIM Max was not being able to capture one. The distance I was able to see from the SIM Max never fell, even though it had a very high spin rate (over 3000 RPM).

This range’s middle driver was not expected to produce such good results without having to change settings to reduce spin. The Inertia Generator in the back added flight to the ball, but did not affect spin.

The Inertia Generator’s angle and shape made it difficult for me to see an increase in swing velocity. I’m still unconvinced with 20 degree angle of the inertia generator. You may see it in TaylorMade laboratories or at a club where DJs are swinging it “in the slots”, but I don’t think it has the same effect on everyone.

Why this club is the best

I was offered a good deal and Taylormade appealed to me so I decided I would buy the club. The wedges I had in my bag were great so I knew the driver would be too.

The Callaway Mavrik was something I thought about buying, but I ultimately decided on the SIM Max because it had a lower price and positive online reviews. As a teenager who was hungry, the Mavrik wasn’t as long-range, so I decided to go with something more.

Verdict

The name SIM may not have the same powerful sound as the M-Series but it does have the beautiful aesthetics that the SIM driver drivers have.

The SIM family has a stunning design. We also love how it grows with you, just like we say in the video.

This is by far the most popular driver in address. This contrasts well with the carbon crown. The bright white top line is beautiful and makes a great impression.

TaylorMade is a top-performing car company when it comes down to driver performance.

The Inertia Generator, which was slightly inclined, did appear to slightly increase my club speed. SIM Max as well as SIM Max also produced some very promising numbers.

SIM Driver had a slow spinning driver which created a deep ball flight. SIM Max was a bit more spunky and produced a greater ball flight.

Although the SIM Max is more flexible, it was still my favorite driver. It gave me the same distance as a large stick.

Cons:

No dramatic improvements over previous models

Not too much adjustment

The SIM and SIM Max drivers will soon be made available. While the speed injected twist facial technology continues, so too does MOI sole weight. This time it is implemented slightly differently. While the SIM Max is our main focus, it is very comparable to the SIM Max with smaller faces and greater adjustability.

We were immediately struck by the great design of this driver. The bottom of the head has been cleaned up a bit since its predecessor, and the dark, metallic colors come together to form a sharp, aesthetically pleasing design.

TaylorMade claims that the driver offers more performance and has optimized its sole weight for a higher MOI. It is hoped that the swing will become more aerodynamic and thus, faster. This model also has slightly more launch conditions than the previous versions.

TaylorMade were very pleased with the performance of the M drivers’ faces, and no changes were made to the speed-injected face twist technology. The ball shoots up off your face and is designed to assist you if you hit the ball in areas that are usually problematic. The ball also sounds amazing.

TaylorMade has had a history of increasing ball speeds, which is no secret. However it appears that their returns are declining. While this driver is great, the weight of the sole seems to be making a difference. But, for most players, performance gains may seem insignificant.

Final Thoughts

TaylorMade is a pioneer in golf club technology. SIM Max’s intelligent MOI, speed-injected face and stunning aesthetic make it a great driver. High-level players, who feel they can benefit from an extra MOI and more clubhead speed, may have great success with the club.

The fun can be enjoyed by those with higher handicaps. Even though the clubface has been optimized for speed and ease, the clubface also features a carefully placed CG that will allow you to achieve the perfect amount of loft.

You don’t need to make a big change if you are currently using the TaylorMade 5 or 6 – but you can be sure that the SIM Max is an excellent piece of kit.

TaylorMade’s drivers had to be completely reshaped to accomplish this. This gave every golfer the ultimate package.

The big story is improving aerodynamics. SIM literally stands for “Shape In Motion”.

The Inertia Generator on the sole places a lot of weight low and back in the clubhead to make it very forgiving and easy launching. TaylorMade decided then to rotate the design feature, which reduces drag and increases clubhead speed.

These drivers will deliver great performance all around, and you’ll fall in love even before your first hit.
