Performance

The ZX7 driver was very different from the ZX6. I read up about it before trying it. There were a lot of emphasises on “penetrating,” meaning low launch, spin and tour shaping. These factors set me back in my expectation for forgiveness. It was surprising to discover that even with imperfect swings, ball speed and distance were maintained by the combined effect of the large carbon crown and Rebound Frame.

Srixon also mentions the spin and low launch speeds in their product descriptions. It was obvious from the first swing. You should make the ZX7 your top choice for 2021 if you are looking to cut down on your tee shots, or launch more potent drives. The ZX5 is a better choice for people who want a greater launch angle or prefer a bit of spin. This shaft will suit the fast and aggressive swinger.

The ZX7 driver offers simple and meaningful adjustment in just two ways. Adjustment of the loft, angle face, and angle lie can be made at the hosel. In the heel, and in the toe are weight ports. Stock configurations have an 8 gram load in the toe, and a four gram in the heel. This creates a neutral shot. Flip them for a draw. Srixon offers additional weights – 4-6, 8, 10 and 12 grams. They are priced at $15 each. I found the stock setting to be perfect. But, there are additional weights available for anyone looking to adjust their swing weight using shorter or longer driver builds.

Our take: ZX Drivers ZX5/ZX7 are both great for extra forgiveness and range. A tester commented, “The classic shaping and red line at the back look fantastic.” The ball is very fast and feels good on the face. It’s best one I’ve hit of the day.” Speaking of hits, the two models offer golfer a choice between a higher trajectory or a more penetrating one. DESCRIPTION: The carbon crown and the Rebound frame combine to improve distance and forgiveness for off-center hits. An adjustable hosel with two back and low weight ports allows golfers to control the CG and face angles for a fade or draw shot. The ZX5 is triangular and has a higher MOI. It also produces higher ballflight. While the ZX7, which yields more shotmaking power and delivers a much more powerful launch, it’s less prone to sanding. Read 150+ ClubTest 2021 reviews. Detail: Our carbon crown and rebound frame work together to enhance distance and forgiveness with off-center strikes. A hosel adjustable and two low-weight ports at the rear allow golfers to set the face angle and CG for draw and fade shots. The more triangular ZX5 has a higher MOI and produces a higher ballflight, whereas the rounder ZX7 affords more shotmaking playability and produces a flatter launch.

Overall Impressions

The Srixon ZX5 was my preferred driver, which is quite an accomplishment. After playing the Z785 driver last year, it was clear that I would be returning to the ZX7 driver profile. You should try several options before you make a decision.

Srixon has made great progress in the driver category and their latest line continues this upward trend. It would not be surprising to see a larger Tour and mini-tour presence for the brand in the driver category thanks to this new release.
