It’s time to move from conspicuous consumption to conscious consumption, and do reviews. This site contains many non-sponsored reviews from Everlane. Elizabeth Suzann. Only Child. Grana. It’s my goal to live a low-waste lifestyle and I love bags. These are some similarities and differences that I observed between the bags. (also, you can read the whole discussion on reddit here). First, the Madewell Transport Tote in black with tan handle measures 14.5 inches by 14.25 inches by 6 inches by 6.25 inches. The strap drops to 8.25 inches. Cuyana Classic leather Tote measures 13″h x 18 (L)x 5(w), inches, with a 9in strap drop. Cuyana’s tote is slightly shorter than the others, but much wider. Cuyana bag leather is very soft and can be folded in to make it smaller (see below).

Although the two totes look very similar, I believe the Cuyana bag is superior.

The Cuyana tote leather is incredible. The leather feels soft and has an amazing smell. Although the leather textures are quite different, it has an odor that reminds me of Balenciaga leather. Madewell’s tote has stiff leather that smells and feels like leather.

The difference between the two leathers is likely due to the fact the Cuyana bag is made in America and the Madewell bag is made in China. Cuyana, however, is known for producing high quality products.

The Madewell Tote has a shorter strap, but that can mean a lot when carrying it over your shoulders when you’re wearing a winter coat. I think the Cuyana bag might fit, while the Madewell tote most definitely wouldn’t.

You can also get the Cuyana tote in three different versions: The classic, tall and zippered.

As you can see the Cuyana tote wins my vote over the Madewell. We could have a wider discussion on all of the bags I have (including this Mansur Gavriel Tote here and this Everlane Tote), but I think the Everlane would be my favorite. The smaller size, adjustable straps and two large interior pockets, with snap-close closures, are my favorite features. Mansur Gavriel can be used for easy stuffing and is very stable. In general, I don’t like soft totes. The Cuyana tote would win my vote if it were me.

Madewell Vs. Leather Tote Fashionable Vs. Cuyana

***Update, March 10, 2018, Update! I was aware that this article has received a lot traffic and thought it was worth updating.

The Madewell bag was collecting dust and I decided to sell it. In the beginning, it was my main purse. It could hold all of our baby stuff and diapers. A smaller crossbody is better for me than a bag. Another Madewell bag was purchased, this time one of the crossbody travel totes. The quality is much better than it was when I first bought the bag. It is made of thinner leather and feels more synthetic than real leather. The strap is held together by a number of brass knobs, not a buckle.

While I still own my Able Tote, the main reason I don’t use that much is because it was so colorful. A second bag was presented to me by Tirhas, the Tirhas Sledbag. It is very useful and well-loved.

Cuyana gifted me merchandise and I promoted an event last spring. Since my long tote had always been too large for me, the Classic Tote came in caramel. I love the Classic tote. The caramel color is much richer than before. I would highly recommend this bag!

A long time ago, I found one of my favorite blogger friends – a gal named Grechen – when I was deep in the throws of an internet search on leather totes. Fast-forwarding a few years, I realized that I had my own small collection of leather tees. After using the totes for about a decade, I thought it was high time to write a review. The beauty of the internet is that you can read feedback on almost any topic. Before you purchase anything, you can get feedback. That’s how valuable it is. You can imagine a group of women, who are the most likely to be the buyers, standing in front of an item. They can then ask questions like “How heavy?” “Did it get broken in OK?” and “Is the material comfortable?” Below I’ve collected my thoughts, along with your questions , to share with you my straight-forward reviews on the Zip Transport Tote by Madewell, the Mamuye Leather Tote by Fashionable and the Tall Leather Tote Time Owned: One year, 11 months What I Like the Most: The leather on this tote is probably my favorite of the three. It’s thick enough to have some structure, but the natural grain and creases have begun to show over time. The leather was sealed properly so I didn’t need to worry about spillages or stains.

What I dislike the most: It’s too narrow to make this a real tote bag. My bag can be carried on either my shoulder or cross-body. I have days when I wish the handle could go over my shoulder. However, logistics do not work.

China. Weight and Shape. Although this bag is quite light, due to the leather strap added with brass details, the overall weight of it is still very lightweight. Zip Transport Tote comes with an inner pocket, is lined, and has a zipper. It is made of leather that is thick enough to hold its shape well. When stuffed chock full, the bag still retains its original shape.

What is the value of The Cuyana Tote Insert?

For those looking to add some (stylish) method to their bag’s madness, cult-favorite leather bag brand Cuyana has a great tote insert that keeps selling out. It’s $95, which is on the pricier end of the spectrum, but the cost is worth the convenience.Dec 17, 2020
